Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 20 Aug 2008 15:27

They just flew over the field and did a big circle, one with smoke - not coloured stuff, and seem to have landed at Nch Airport before going off to do the display at Cromer Carnival at 5pm.
They were at Weymouth at 12 noon so probably refuelling planes and pilots lol

Need to go out but will miss them flying off, b***er!

I saw them circling one by one, they went very low to land at the airport which isn't far as the crow, or planes, fly from here, ten mins drive I suppose depending on traffic. One let off a stream of white 'smoke' as the displays do .
Don't know if they will have a practice formation over the field before they go, maybe I can manage to do all my errands tomorrow so be here to watch and take pics.
Stray, I love them too and get very excited, am like a kid! lol

It would have been good to go to Cromer Carnival but not much fun on your own and he is always at work. Also I would have to drive and getting so little sleep these days, I don't drive far if I can help it as don't feel withit enough lol (Who said, when am I ever with it?lol)

Liz, when I am home, I see them practicing, they are based about 5 miles from home.
Unfortunately, having been in the RAF, I have seen enough of them. Incedently, my brother was ground crew on them back in the 70's when they had Folland Gnats instead of Hawks.

Oh, love the red arrows, wonderful to watch, seem them many times but a good one was when we had just opened a new school in Lydney in 1973, I was working as a lunch time supervisor, daughter was at the school, it was carnival day. All the school lined up on the field and the red arrows did a fly past especially for the school on their way to another display. It was very special. The kids loved it.

Keith, Barry/Brian, thanks for the info, especially about the 'smoke' - I wondered how they did that altho realised dye or colourant must have been used.

Years ago a cousin of mine got together a formation of pals with wheelbarrows and they performed at charity dos, they were - wait for it....

The Red Barrows lol

He can't do it now, he lost a leg in a motorbike accident.

I realised I had one errand that wouldn't wait so at the time they would have taken off I was too far away to see. Never mind, always next year.

Barry, my apologies, was thinking of my brother, he is Brian lol.

Yes, I have been to Ras Al Khaimah and Um Al Quwain (even the locals all spell that differently). And Abu Dhabi, and Dubai, also Al Ain. I am still an aircraft engineer so frequently visit those airports lol.

Liz they live near me so I am lucky to see them often. I still get excited when I see them. When they fly over my house I go running out dog on my heals

Did you know that they WON'T be doing a fly-over at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony?? They were told that they were 'too British!!'

Captncruise Report 21 Aug 2008 08:47

I was in the RAF as a national Servicemen 1957-59.
One of the display team in those days had to bail out over the Norfolk Broads, when he had some trouble. His seat came down with him and he had a couple of fractured vertebrae and he finished up in Ely Hospital.
Before he jumped he had to jettison the dummy rockets he carried.
One of the rockets sunk a yacht on the broads, another landed in someones kitchen, a third buried up to its tail in a field and they never did find the 4th.

Oh crikey, that must have been a shock if someone was cooking dinner, and for the person sailing too.

Heard a roar a few minutes ago and wondered what was about but couldn't see anything and they aren't due here today I don't think.
I must check their website and see when they are next in the area.

Can't believe it, switched the computer off and heard a roar, and there they were out over the field again, the Red Arrows! Suppose they have come across from Clacton maybe and then on to Cornwall for later, they circled the field a couple of times and then down to the Airport - they must like it here in Norwich lol
Hope I get to see them go off this time altho they might be going in a different direction so could miss them.
I am becoming addicted lol
Neighbour was out watching too, there are advantages of living here!

I love the Red Arrows, seen them many, many times.

First time ever in the 70's we were lying on the beach at Watergate Bay in Cornwall, dosing in the sun (as you do lol ) when there was an almighty roar and up
they came streaking colours across the blue sky.

The memory has never left me and we were all thrilled
that day and soo excited.

Following year at Newcastle airport after one of their displays, one of the pilots came to speak to our 10 yr old son and gave him his autograph, son was speechless.

Fabulous displays!
