As others have said Paul, if you need to talk about it the anxieties and depressions thread is usually on the first couple of pages. several people on there who suffer with depression, panic attacks etc. They all help each other.

Will try and find out for you Paul. The course on the PC was called Beating the Blues. If you contact the MIND Charity, they are one organisation who you can access it through.

That's encouraging to hear your story, Reg. It's great to hear you're fully recovered, too. Hope Paul gets to read the book.

I've just had a look at the Beating the Blues website, and it needs a GPs thingy to access it. So i'll ask my Doctor tomorrow.

Reg, was the book called "Self Help for your Nerves"?

I read that years ago and it did help.

As has been advised Paul, hop across to the Depression/Anxiety thread which now has in excess of 3,000 postings - everyone helps one another on that thread, never ever been any unpleasantness on there and trust there never will. Always someone around on there to give support and advice and usually there is someone with the same symptoms as yourself - give it a try, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain

Lots of love, Ann XXXX -[clinical depressive]

Paul, please persuade your GP. I know someone who has just done the course and could see a difference in them in a couple of weeks.

I know when you are going through an attack that every minute seems like an hour and the feelings of going mad are unbearable, I had a similar thing to you and the fear of having an attack at work triggered off an attack - so you are just in a circle. I take Cipralex now and that helps. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Take care,

Jackie

It sounds odd, but my panic attacks come through a fear of having an attack!

I've got a mental image of me being at work, and having an attack.

It's only me and 1 other member of staff, so if I have to go, the business is screwed basically. It needs 2 people there at all times.

If I go, i can see my boss being P-O'd, which will make me feel even more lower if I'm shouted at!

So if you cant leave your job ...you need some ways to cope with it all .........

my son has a garden ....in his head that he goes to when things get to much in the classroom .....he built the garden when he was younger and uses it when hes stressed ...

Yes this is normal with panic attacks to worry about having one ...which in turn can bring it on ...

but I therefore need to ask

What will happen if you have one at work ?

Paul Norfolk Dumpling

Paul Norfolk Dumpling Report 20 May 2008 23:14

I'll have to go, leaving the pub unattended, which will make my boss furious, make them shout at me, and then making my mood lower, causing more depression & panic.

KempinaPartyhat

KempinaPartyhat Report 20 May 2008 23:16

Do you really believe that they at work will do nothing if you have a panic attack at work .....

at what point would you leave
while you are having an attack or after
0..........

Paul Norfolk Dumpling

Paul Norfolk Dumpling Report 20 May 2008 23:19

There's not always other people there, that's the problem.

The chef is in the kitchen, and i'm on the bar, and thats usually it.

KempinaPartyhat

KempinaPartyhat Report 20 May 2008 23:23

So at what point do you begin to panic ?

when you are alone or when people come in?

Paul Norfolk Dumpling

Paul Norfolk Dumpling Report 20 May 2008 23:29

I suppose it's more when people come in, as I don't like the thought of people seeing me panic.

But it's still the thought of panic which chills me to the bones.

KempinaPartyhat

KempinaPartyhat Report 20 May 2008 23:34

I think you need to find a away to cope just as people come in to you ....

prehaps when some one enters ...tidy some glasses and just say "I,ll be with you in a mo "
then think of something to say like have you had a good day ....

You like me must have signs of the attacks coming on .....if it starts just turn away and breath ....

A friend of mine used to have a photo passport size of her kids in her pocket .....she would just take a quick look and put it back ...now she just knows its there ..........she had an attack on a Till she worked on in T****
