I had a full blown panic attack on sunday, tried to book an emergency appointment, but they wouldn't have it.

Went on monday for an emergency appointment, and th doctor actually said "What do you expect me to do at 9.30 in the morning with an emergency appointment"?

Paul.

Sorry to hear you're feeling like this.

As Caz said, get yourself on the Depression thread, it's been so supportive to alot of us sufferers. I had a repeat this weekend after coming of my medication, rang GP at 8.30 Monday Morning n by 11.30 was on 50mg again.

Whatever you do, however you feel...TALK TALK n TALK...!!

ps. would ringing NHS direct help? They have professionals on the end of the line. Plus as Muffy said change your doctor or another practice if you have a choice. xx

Well, i thought i'd come on here, 'cos sometimes it's easier to talk to someone you don't "know", rather than a friend or family.

Yep know what you mean Paul.

Actually I am quite a shy person, but its so easy to type how you feel when no one is looking lol

I totally agree with talking to someone who does not know you .You can leave you problems with a stranger which is by far the best way to do it .I am a good listener (was with victim support for 10 years)

Paul,

So sorry to hear that you are having panic attacks.

They are horrible and sometimes the support we need is not with the medical advisors...

I take a pill called "Vitan" when I feel one coming on which we never know when or what sets the attacks off...I also suffer from high blood pressure and am a very nervous person by nature...

I learned from a friend of mine to do breathing exercises...all you have to do is focus on breathing in and out very slowly...

This is very difficult to do and will take a long time as your mind wonders off on it's own..

Once you have learned to control your breathing 90 percent of the time you can control your attacks....

This really works but takes a lot of will power...

Have you ever had CBT? I know that you can actually do it by computer now and it does help. My doctor was the same when I went to see him with panic attacks and stress/depression. He told me that he would do nothing for me until I got rid of my then husband, as he was the problem!! Doesn't help when you are in the middle of a full blown attack and have no help is it.

Paul, that breathing in and out helps you concentrate if you count to 4 (in your head) whilst breathing in through your nose and count to 4 whilst letting it out through your mouth - try it for a while.

I've tried MoodGym, and i've got a 101 books on the subject, but my fear is when i'm at work having a panic attack. Books & Web programs go to the back of my head when in a panic
