I am Midlands born of Geordie parents, Mum being from Newcastle on Tyne and Dad from Jarrow, Co. Durham. My maternal grandfather was from North Yorkshire but moved to Northumberland where he married my maternal grandmother. Her family were Northumbrians for generations as far back as I can go. Dad's family were Jarrow for several generations but previously from Lancashire. Obviously I spent many many holidays as a child visiting relatives in Newcastle anfd must confess to feeling quite emotional when I cross Tyne Bridge - it really does feel like 'coming home' How daft from someone born two hundred miles away in the Midlands !!

Hello Sally, I live very close to where a huge amount of my mum's ancestors came from, mostly all in the same and two neighbouring counties. I'm also not far from London where another big proportion come from.

But then I have a lot in other parts of the UK and abroad so.....

I find that everywhere I go to see and get to know because ancestors came from or lived there feels a bit like home:)

I live within a mile of where my paternal grandmother and grandfather were born, and the GG and GGG grandparents on my Dad's side.

My maternal side originates from Hampshire and (possible) Oxfordshire, while my Paternal family hail from Suffok and Wiltshire, getting together in London. I live in Norfolk.

So...quiet a way lol

I live at least 200 miles from various members of my family and where I was born.

But by a quirk of fate less than 8 miles from my great grandparents.

I live in Ireland in the midlands. Both my parents came from Dublin, 80 miles away. My OH's family has lived in the same place since 1800. We build our house next door and two of my sons live within one mile.
However all my ancestors on both sides of the family came from Scotland. My paternal side came from Dunbar south of Edinburgh and my maternal side came from Glasgow / Lanarkshire. They returned to Scotland so I should have 3rd or 4th cousins there. lol

I live about 14 thousand miles away from my birthplace and from my forebears homes lol.

When I did live in the UK, I was still hundreds of miles from my family roots - we move around alot!

How far am I from home?? Too far is what.

Born in Cardiff but my "home" is Froncysyllte/Llangollen/Trefor area of north Wales (my father's 'home'). Spent many summers there as a child and emotionally I am still strongly drawn to that area.
My mother was born in Weymouth, Dorset, moved around a lot as my grandfather was a naval surgeon then latterly a general practitioner. My mother lived for 18 years in London (Finchley) and her mother remained there for another 10 years.
Now I am in Ontario, Canada, emigrated as a child with parents from Cardiff.
My roots are over the pond. Paternal line includes Wales and Shropshire (formerly Salop). Maternal includes England as above, plus Plymouth area, Cornwall, Eire, Belfast, Dundee. So I am truly Heinz 57 variety.

I live in the south east corner and have no links this far east.....Not easy for hands-on research.
Dad was born in Portsmouth, - his Mum in Hampshire, his Dad in Sussex.Their families can be tracked back in those counties.

Mum was from Glamorgan, but her grandparents had been born in Herefordshire, where I can track the family back in the same village for many generations.
