Sorry to say Harry I disagree. As long as the child is healthy who cares what it is. A girl can play football too. Just enjoy being with the baby, and later see what develops. |

Well although I'm not a grandparent - but my parents are and so far they have two granddaughters - my sister's children who probably wont be having anymore. They love them to pieces and really didn't mind what the first grandchild was going to be - they were just overjoyed to have one. The second time - I admit I wanted her to have a boy to even things out a bit in their home - but now it is three women to one man in their house and if the girls turn out like my sister - I feel for my brother in law! |

As a female who was bought up by a mother who constantly voiced her disappointment that I wasn't male I find your comment quite sad!! |

I'm sorry you feel that way Harry - like others on here i didn't care what my daughter was as long as she was healthy - and to be honest she could kick a boys butt now anyway ;-)))))))))))) |

Harry - as you said in your post they produced your "first" grandchild - so there is the chance there may be others and you may just get the grandson you so long for. But even if that doesn't happen, I'm sure that you will grow to love and appreciate that little girl with all your heart and she will dote on her grandaddy. |

When I was expecting my children, I have to admit to not wanting two boys. One of each or two girls would sit me fine. I ended up with two girls. Eldest has just had her second child - a boy, but her first child was a ,now aged 5 - and a more lovely child would be difficult to find (all right - I'm biased!!) |

Well I am a very lucky grandparents to a girl and a boy and am delighted with both, BUT if I am entirely honest when my first grandchild was on the way I was hoping deep down that it was a girl - which it was. Reason for this I think was that I only had one child myself, my son, and the thought of the 'girly' side was quite appealing. Having said all this, my main concern at the time was that everything went well and baby was fine - the fact that it was indeed a girl first time round was a bonus. Equally, I must say I was just as excited when grandson was on the way. As I said at the start I am very lucky and both my grandchildren are the apples of my eye. |

Just a brief comment, ask a parent who has lost a child, they miss that special connection one has with ones own blood - their arms are empty - their child is gone, their future. If another child is born after a child death, at delivery the only thing that is important is that the child is alive, and is yours, health can be treated, in the end the sex doesn't matter. This precious little girl will tug at your heart- strings, and before you know it she'll be wrapping you round her little finger. |

I also agree we like to see a bit of ourselves in our children, so have the perception a girl is like mum and a boy is like dad...think its natural, its what we en visualise :o)) |

Two things arising from the comments. My eldest son has one of each, which is possibly the ideal. |

Harry, i quite understand where you are coming from - I would love grandchildren and for me a little girl would be the choice, but I would love any little one as you do too I am sure. |
