McAnne, if hubby would go, I would move back to NI tomorrow... well, right now, actually. I loved it there.

But.... I have loved it in almost every place I have called home over my almost 36 years of marriage... I have moved house 37, times, lived in various parts of Britain, Germany, Cyprus, Holland and Northern Ireland and West Wales...... I am loving it here at home now, but admit to still feeling a little unsettled, lol, as if I am waiting for the next *posting* to come through at any moment!!

You will never know if it will suit you unless you try it... and these days, nowhere is very far away any more, is it?

If you own your own place... why not rent it out for a while, and rent over in NI until you find your feet?

You'll love it there, I'm sure.

If you could afford to do it rent out your house when you first move out there (short term lease) so if it doesn't work out you would still have your house to come back to. I presume you're thinking about the area your friend lives in...get him to look out for a house/flat in a decent area, look on the net for jobs and don't forget to start saveing a decent amount for the move.

Me.... after moving from Birmingham to Scotland.. living there for 30 odd years I moved down to Essex nearly 8 years ago..........and here I intend staying....

My parents met when they were both in the army so they relocated many times, the worst being to Germany with my 6month old brother. They eventually ended up back where my mum had started her life but Dad's immediate family dispersed to various different places so he didn't really miss them.

I went to uni for 4 years, not sure you would call it relocating as I came back lol.

I would love to relocate but no idea where to lol.

went from Bucks and all muy family and friends to Sussex where I knew nobody.

was hard but within a couple of weeks was going out with hubby and lived in where I worked so was always people around.

6 Years ago we moved from Sussex to Midlands left all my friends and Steves family behind and came here with sister 10 minutes down road.

Was hard on children at first and hubby misses the sea.
Have one friend who keeps in touch the others is me doing the sending of messages and we are the ones who go down to visit although youngest sister in law and her hubby and son do come up once in a while.

Im lucky as I dont have to be surrounded by people (god who would put up with moody me) and have got involved with school pta which has meant I have a couple of friends who I know I can trust,

If you are the sort of person who has to have people round her all the time might find it hard but if you dont mind your own company should be fine

Julie & Daff - that's an idea to put into the pot - thanks - have hardly looked into anything yet so any ideas are gratefully received .......

I moved from Hertfordshire to Newcastle and back again, lasted three months and came back. I was actually born in Hertfordshire. Now I class Newcastle as my home.

We sold our house and chucked our jobs in to move over to France nearly eight years ago and not looked back.
We didnt want to wait until we retired as wanted to be able to enjoy life while still young enough and fit enough to be able to do something different.
Can easily get back to see family but do find it a slog getting back to see my parents as they moved to the Isle of Man

Now, now McAnne, why would ye be thinking of moving to Northern Ireland? To be sure, everyone knows the Republic is better!

OK - I'll grant ye that Antrim has some lovely countryside but have a look at the beauty of Louisburg, Westport & surrounding hills of Co Mayo. They were so nice when I was a buck, I decided that the London bright lights were for me.

Well, I thought a few years in the smoke would be brilliant & so, like the needle stuck on the EP, I stayed 20 years.

From there, I headed southwest to Devon. Now, this is where I'm going to spend the rest of my life (if I live that long!!). Now doubt about it, McAnne, Devon is delightful. So, do it for Devon!

Well - I only know one person in Ireland lol - so my instinct would be to close to that one person ...........

We did take a wee trip across to Donegal and had a drive along the coast - and yes I'll grant you it was beautiful, but the open fields of Antrim are calling for now lol

There's enough years to have a taste of both tho to be sure ;O)P

Aye and Devon is delightful too - I love the West Country too but the Emerald Isle has turned my head :O))

first cousin moved to US and now lives in Texas where I hope she stays till she pops her clogs!!!!

Well you already know I moved from one end of the country to the other lol Hampshire to Scotland..the only people I knew up here were OH's family but to me home is where you make it babe and if you really dont feel you are tied to Kent then I will say go for it..lifes too short for regrets..do agree with Jupee though maybe rent your place out and see how you feel after a few months but deep down I am inclined to say just go for it!!
My pals down south thought I was mad moving here but I havent regretted it for a minute and I go back often ;0) Good luck with your decision Anne x x

Well I have to admit - my only tie to Kent is that the folks are here ......... my bro is talking of relocating to France eventually and all that then leaves is friends that I only see a couple of times a year anyway - still do-able ....

Then of course - it's only a wee hop across to the Highlands to visit you lot lolol

Just needs a lot of research thinking and planning ......... I feel a few headaches to follow lol xx

Did you know Liverpool was one of the ports that the Irish came to ;-)

When I said about moving here one of the first things we did was to get in touch with the local estate agents to get an idea on house prices etc We had to stay with OH's nephew at first as we sold our house and had no where here as theres a different way of buying/selling houses here!
I don't envy you the headaches as can still remember mine lol But will be looking in to see what you decide and whatever the outcome wish you the very best x x

When I was six we moved from Glasgow to Livingston(36 miles) and been here 37 years.
Now inthe process of migrating to Australia.
If you go and don't like it you can always come back and know that you have tried. But if you don't go you will always wonder what if?
