I'm having trouble downloading updates from Adaware at the moment.

If I try to update definitions it comes up with "Error retrieving update"

Same result at home and at work, so not just my machine.

Anyone else experiencing this?

BrianW Report 28 Jan 2008 13:56

Thanks, Rosalind.

I've updated many times without problems, so am foxed as to what's going wrong.

Hi Brian :)

Are you using a 2007 Adaware version. I believe Lavasoft the makers stopped doing updates for any previous versions of Adaware on December the 31st last

BrianW

BrianW Report 28 Jan 2008 14:15

Hiya everyone - l have been talking to a IT chap on the phone and l have deleted the trojans from the vault:o)) just going to do another scan whilst l watch Neighbours.
Fingers crossed - he said they may come back, they may not, if they do then l'll take it into him. He says l should be protected by what l have - but l may upgrade AVG, as its the free one. The Norton is spyware and the two do work together - l have firewall Zonealarm.

Sorry l did'nt give you all the info yesterday - l did'nt know where to look (daft bat) until l had had time to sort me head out!!! lol

see yeh in a while:o)

l will get the IT to look at it defo Thursday - thought l could deal with it.

Hi Jude
I have a few little concerns here that you say this IT chap costs a lot of mone. How much is he charging?
He should have told you to scan in Safe Mode and I also do not agree that you "should" have enough protection. He should also have talked you through how to retrieve your photographs, and what is wrong with the free edition of AVG? Millions of users worldwide surely can't be wrong.
Apologies if I am stepping on toes but I don't think you are being given the best advice here - particularly if it is costing a fortune. As a comparison, PC World (who are not necessarily the least expensive!) will carry out a PC health check including virus removal for less than 50 quid.

PS your photo issue is with the software and not the images themselves, in my opinion.

Hello Erroll - the chap l was trying to get hold of has'nt got back to me - he lives about 20 - 30 mins from me and charges £50 plus what work he does. He may not be doing repairs anymore (lbought the puter from him, he made it). The chap l have spoken to said that AVG free and Norton Spyware are fine, it was me who thought l ought to upgrade my puter. So l will take it into the iT chap l spoke to on Thursday - they are usually ok, l have heard good results from other people.

Thanks for helping though everyone - perhaps l ought to let this thread go now, l don't want to confuse everyone - gawd l'm confused enough - dowwww lol

It's a shame you have deleted the infected files from your Virus Vault, otherwise you could have sent them to me so I could have taken a look to ascertain whether they are indeed infected. As Rosalind rightly says, there is much documentation about false negatives regarding Easyshare. Basically what happens is AVG detects Easyshare as a false threat if you have the latest virus definitions and quarantines it rendering the programme useless.
Now I know what you are thinking - you should never send someone an infected file but it really is ok - we have the technology lol
(I wouldn't advise anyone without the necessary security and software to do this!)
