Me and my partner have decided to get married summer 2009, I really dont have a clue where to start. I think I would like a church wedding but other than that I do not have a clue.

I would be very grateful for any ideas.

First thing to do, if you have a local church you attend (or Like) go to see the vicar, to discuss availability and costs. Then once you have this date, you are away, and can look for venues.

If you decided on a civil ceremony there are so man licensed places now, google for your area "venue with marriage licenses". Go from there.

Congratulations !

Avoid the date clashing with any major events or sporting fixtures in your area.....nightmare for travelling and getting to destinations on time.

are all bank holidays next year so avoid anything around those - then check availability at the church you choose. Col

Thanks everyone for your help.

I need to decided if I want to get married in the church in my village or one in the town I used to live in (both stunning churches).
I am thinking the town would be better for reception venues.

Re. which church.....Some vicars are very strict about non-residents marrying.
You sometimes need to have a strong family tie...or be a church-goer there.

Best check with them.

good luck Nikki, I was married in Church, the best day of my life. My daughter getting married this year, with a civil ceremony, as she is not a church goer. But she is making the service as nice as possible, with two readings, and lovely harp music before and after the vows, we are all looking forward to it now.

Hi Congrats

If you use the village you get a longer car ride if you fancy a limo to take you to and from church to the recpt.
LOL

But remember it's your day family and friends may give to advice but it's your choice on how you want the day.

Have fun planning.

Wow Cariad that sounds really nice!!

I am not really a church goer, have been christened. I just want a really traditional white wedding. Every little girls dream. I will have to go and see both vicars and see what they say.

Thanks Kate. I know its all about what we want, but unfortunately we will have a strict budget so need to be realistic.

Does anyone know how much the church will be likely to cost?

Congratulations

best bit of advice i can give is get a notebook and first of all work out a budget you can afford, make a list of how you want the day, ie do you want it traditional or modern, whats colour scheme do you want, how many attendants etc.

When you have an idea on what you want shop around, get estimates from different venues to see the menus available and prices, ask how much they charge per bottle if you provide your own fizz for the toasts? (if you decide on them) how many people can they accomodate?, do they decorate the room? do they provide a dj?

Also shop around for flowers and such often the smaller businesses are alot cheaper than the big chains.

When it comes to bridal wear dont feel you have to buy from a bridal shop as they can sometimes be more expensive and some department stores sell wedding attire alot cheaper.

If you can make your staionary, invites, order of service go for it, its alot cheaper and makes it a bit more personal and one off.

Most of all plan it how you and your partner want it dont be too swayed by others and you will have a wonderful day.

Thanks Jax

I just dont know where to start I know what I want (have done for years lol), how I want the day to be, just dont know where!

If i'm feeling like this already what am I going to be like the few weeks leading upto the wedding??
