but i have great distance sight

Have worn mine for almost 30 years now - just for the one eye though - the other cant be fixed something to do with the brain not reacting Ambliopia or something its called. Had I had a proper mother my site could have been saved as a child but she wasnt interested in her children or their needs.

If you have children under the age of 5 and are concerned please do get their site checked as some conditions cannot be repaired once the brain has developed in those areas.

Saying that I see well enough and dont know what I miss if that makes sense :) So everything looks normal to me - I just walk into lots of things on my left. I am short sited in my good eye but as I wear a plain lens in my duff eye (which does focus so dosent look odd) I can get away with very thin lenses.

I have two sets of Very Good glasses - but I loose things so often I also have a few sets from that website that does them from £15.00!!!! as spares.

yep, I wear mine all the time, and they do help with hearing! I have to put mine on to answer the phone, to see whos talking to me !!

Tina, you are short sighted, hence why you can see items close up. Your prescription would start with a - and if you are long sighted a +

I've had glasses from the age of 8.
Now had varifocals for about 10 years and have to wear them from get-up to go-to-bed, I'm another one that can't hear properly if I don't have the specs on and family laugh at me too, glad to learn i'm not the only one with this 'problem.'

I do for the computer and reading.

Poolie Girl could be right with number 3 theory, I never thought about it before but I have ears that are so flat to my head that the arms must surely stick mine out a bit.

Just for reading at the mo, but reckon I will need varifocals soon....

I wear mine from wake-up to bedtime. Tri-focals, with progressive midline. Frighteningly dependent on them!! Need a new Rx but the last pair cost over $300Cdn, so I've been putting it off, my health insurance only covers $120 every 2 years.

Glasses. All the time now, but used to be only for reading lol

Me, I wear varifocals. I also hear better with my glasses on, and if it is light. That is because I am hard of hearing (wear a hearing aid some of the time) and rely on subconsciously lip reading.

Theories why hearing 'improves' with specs

You are in a better situation to lip read
More attention can be focussed on hearing if you are not struggling with blurry visual messages
The arms make your ears stick out more and hence make better sound receivers, lol.

I am so glad you wrote that about being able to hear better with glasses on. So true.

I can't see distance but don't need glasses for computer and reading and stuff.... does that make me long sighted? anyway, I forget to put them on when getting up from the computer and can't see much, but fumble about anyway, lose confidence and hearing.

I've worn glasses since i was 11...short sighted.....i tried contacts when i was about 15 but i fainted when the optician put them in!!!!! then when i was 19 i tried again and have been wearing them ever since(almost but not quite 20years).I've always had disposable lenses and hate wearing my glasses..........Gwyn i too can't hear so well without my glasses....i got laughed at when i told my family that,

I wear varifocals and have for years, I have a special pair for VDUs with anti-glare coating cost £305.00, fortunately paid for by the company...

All my kids wear glasses/contacts and yes I get the blame for this! The defective sight gene..lol
