I dont really think one can really know someone by just sending messages to each other on here, as you only have to say the wrong thing, and immediately your not a nice person.
Its the same regarding the visual ideas we have about each other, we mostly get that wrong as well.
You cant beat actually talking face to face, at least then you get a better idea.

well SE I certainly know more about my grandparents life on the Thames than I did before I came on here!

You never get the full picture till you have spent
a lot of time with them in real life.
This is just cyberland.lol
We all get a picture in our heads but it rarely turns out to be the real person

Foggy, we have probably all said things that have been 'read wrongly'...lol..I know I have!....very hard sometimes to pick up on the 'tone' of what is being said, makes a huge difference when you can hear the inflection and/or read the body language!

As to the physical..well I am a statuesque
goddess lol....NOT!

I like reading local history and especially about the glassworks and shipyards where nearly all my male ancestors worked

Good Morning, Rose! ~~~~~~ waves~~~~~ This is a little bit deep for me at this time in the morning!

However, I think that very few people are brave enough to show themselves as they really are. Some show themselves sometimes but mostly the walls only come down after time and getting to know the other person and trusting them. And it depends on how private/shy each person is.

The written word is more difficult to show emotions and can be easily misunderstood (as I have found to my cost!). But I am learning to put in ; - ))) or : - p or Tee! Hee! Or other obvious emotions. ♥ ♫ **** to make my meaning clearer.

Hi Clueless, I don't often try to put a visual picture of someone to the name...though have recently been able to see photos of some on next gen, which was nice.

It is a strange place cyberland...I suppose because to a great extent one misses out all those preliminaries before talking to someone...ie meeting! lol

lol My mate has known me 25 years and I can still surprise her...and vice versa...even though we know each other so well.

Lindy, i think we all show different aspects of ourselves ,if i can put it that way.....emotionally, or intellectually...to different people on the boards...and off of course....

think sometimes this site enables a little bit of escapism for people---away from the everyday humdrum things
plus its often easiest to discuss problems with someone who isn't emotionally involved to get a non biased opinion

I don't think you can really get to know everything about a person from chatting on here. I think you can get an idea by reading the person's views, their sense of humour, how compassionate they are, whether they are aggressive or passive, most people are consistent in their behaviour. But we only get to know as much as each person is prepared to allow us to know. It is easy to hold something of ourselves back.

that is why it is good to meet people in the flesh at meets, that can reinforce our opinions.
