JEH123 Report 10 Dec 2007 17:53

I forgot to add I have a fear of heights and deep water, especially if you can see the bottom...OOH that really gives me the creeps!

For those who don't like snakes..a friend of mine told me about someone she knew who had a snake and let it sleep at the foot of her bed at night. Then one day it stopped eating for a few days so she took it to the vet. The vet checked it over and found nothing wrong. The vet then asked Is it doing anything different. The reply was yes it's sleeping across the bed and not in a coil.

The vet then said
' I'll have to put it down, its getting ready to eat you!'.......BIG SHUDDER!!!

That was not the reply I expected.

Well people, I find this thread somewhat reassurring to me, reading some of your phobias, especially the feeling/or being sick ones. Knowing that there are other people out there who have the same

My daughter from a small child has had this problem and when she was young I had to sit with her for hours in the loo cos she felt ill ...she hardley ever was but the thought of it terrified her

Anyway to cut a long story short, I thought she would grow out of it as she got older. She hasn't and cannot even deal with her children 4yrs and 18mths old being ill - it frightens her silly.

She has been to Drs, hypnotists all sorts but is still the same

ohhhh its not just me then and snakes, I cannot watch them on the TV, in a book/mag anything. I've even got the ebie jibies typing this. They have loads of them over here, they are huge (well huge to me) and I freek if one crosses the road in front of me - they are soo fast I hav'nt managed to run over one yet. yuckkkkk. apparently they pop when you do, so I hope I'm in my 4 x 4 if ever it happens and not in my little punto.
also I don't like spiders, they have jumping ones here (why am I here).
Also due to my fear of spiders and snakes I will not touch banana's, I just cannot, because I think a poisonus spider or snake is in them!! When I worked for Tesco as a senior manager we had to be multi skilled and from time to time help out on the checkouts, some people do not use a plastic bag to put their nana's in so I would either have a pair of gloves or I would invert a carrier bag and scoop them up to put them on the scales....

My OH cannot touch cotton wool!!!!!

Like a lot of people on here;
Heights, can't even stand on a chair without wobbling
Flying......I have never been in a plane....too scared
Anything that doesn't have legs and crawls around, especially worms and slugs
A lifelong fear of being sick or seeing someone else be ill.....I hate to hear of a tummy bug doing the rounds, it frightens me rigid.

Toothfairy Report 10 Dec 2007 21:05

Dead worms!!!
UUrrgghhhh (almost vomit thinking about them)

I see them sometimes when at the cattery - and i throw up and can't stand to be near them - let alone move them!!!!

I also have a phobia of 'germs' - i verge on OCD with it - if i think it's 'germy' i compusivly clean...!

I'm the same with being sick, and I couldn't deal with my kids when they were sick...I still can't take it now, though I am a bit stronger, not so inclined to run from the room so quickly LOL

Spiders is my other one, not the little teeny ones, but anything with a leg span of more than 1/2 inch.

AnninGlos Report 10 Dec 2007 21:10

glad i am not alone with my phobia. strangely enough I always coped when the children were sick, cleared up after them too. But would then shake for an hour afterwards, convinced I was going to catch it. And often did of course. If i have the bug I cope, it is the expecting to catch it that is the phobia. And I dread sitting next to someone on the plane that is travel sick.

Oh yes had a daughter that was travel sick too so used to be a bag of nerves when travelling in the car when she was young.

Anything that goes 'bang' .... cap guns, balloons, party poppers, fireworks, champagne corks, cars back-firing.
Seem to be getting over the thunder storm one but still don't like them.
I also HATE vomiting.

Thunderstorms - the lightening. Nothing would get me to go outside during one. Am even afraid indoors in case the house gets struck.

Water if I can't see the bottom. Don't care how deep it is, as long as I can see the bottom I'm fine. I can't even go on a pedalo if I can't see the sand under the water!
