Hi,

Thanks so much for your views on the subject, this also is very interesting. Would it be possible to include your views in my coursework if needed?

Thanks
Corinne

Thank you all so much for filling in my survey. Once I have analysed the result I will post them on here so that you can all see the results.
Once again thank you for your time

I think they'd be tourists. They're on a mission to find something interesting that appeals to them, like 'normal' tourists would be.

PS to my earlier message:

When I travel to visit a churchyard, cemetery, town, village, etc. to do research relating to genealogy, do I class myself as a tourist ?

I am travelling, I am taking photographs and I am giving local hotels, shops and restaurants custom, so the answer must definitely be yes.

I have just completed the questionnaire Corinne. Hope it helps.
Good luck with your degree, I got a 2.1 BA Hons degree in History at The University of Derby in 1999, I did mine at the main Derby Campus and also Mickleover. (I believe the latter site is now closed).
Best Wishes, Bernie.

Corinne,

Please post some feedback about your results if and when you can. It would be interesting to learn our views and if the results cover a narrow or wider spectrum

I have just done the survey, but would have liked to add a comment.
I visited one of the ancestral villages in 1997 when I was touring England with my sister and her husband. I found my 3x gt grandparents grave. Unfortunately I hadnt gone as far into my ancestry at that stage as I have now and would love to go back (from New Zealand) but as a superannuitant I cant afford it :((
I have just received from a 3rd cousin a video of the Dilhorne church I visited, plus one at Cheadle which I now know as another ancestral one, and the one at Leigh in Staffs which I also now know as ancestral, but not quite so ancestral as the other two.
Now when I win lotto (flap, flap, oink, oink) I will definitely be a genealogical tourist.

Huia, wistfully thinking of all the places and people I want to visit.
