Going to get a new plum tree tomorrow or saturday of a local variety, quite looking forward to it, but don't know quite what we need to do to prepare the ground etc.
Going to feed Trumplee again this weekend as it did well on it's last feed two weeks ago.

Hope you have better luck with your onion sets and other crops.
I think we are going to be growing some veg at some point, but not sure what

Jon and Suzie Report 25 Feb 2008 13:27

well we are hoping to buy a local variety plum tree and may get a local variety apple tree too at some point.
Just to see what happens we planted a sprouting onion and it's grown alot more greenery now, not sure what we do with it.
Also got some melon seeds to sprout, not sure it's warm enough though

HI Jon and Suzi,

Glad to see Trumplee is doing better than last week.

I had disaster with my onion seeds so now have some onion sets to put in next week along with my first early spuds.
I have started the sweet peas in the glass house and will start sorting out the rest of the sowings on Wednesday.

Are you growing anything for this year apart from the seedlings?

Trumplee seems a bit better now, looking a bit threadbare with all his leaves removed, but he now has a couple more come out at the top to go with the one we left on

That sounds promising Barbara. We've been enjoying our seedlings developing, we hope yours flourish when they appear.

Opted at the weekend to ask advice at another garden centre. We said that poor Trumplee is looking very sorry for himself and has a lot of yellow leaves. The man said to feed it and snip off the yellow leaves, which we've done. Now fingers crossed it'll start to improve.

early days on the pear, seems ok though, nothing in the fridge seems to be germinating, would've thought the cherry stones would be showing signs if they were going to. Perhaps the early ones were flukes.
She said the seedling should be ok, fingers crossed, but we've got to keep an eye on them

Hi Jonathan,

Good to see it's not curtains for them.

How are the Pears doing?

Jon and Suzie Report 4 Feb 2008 13:18

Went to the gardening nursery yesterday. The lady believes the browning to be to do with a draft or if not that a symptom of overwatering. We are not going to water the plants for a week or so and keep an eye on them. We also repotted them too early.

Jon and Suzie

Jon and Suzie Report 1 Feb 2008 13:14

It's mainly on one leaf, but others are a bit that way too. The other seedlings are next to it and their leaves are getting really dry. It is the biggest one that is browning, it also has gone brown at the base of the stem roughly where the seed leaves were.
Thans Tina, yes we need someone to see them.

HI Jon and Suzie,

The brown leaf could indicate a cold draught. I would be surprised if it was anything else. Has it any yellow on the leaf? and is it only one leaf?
Hopefully the lady at the centre can give you the adivice needed. It's difficult to suggest anything without seeing it.
Good luck

We're going to take them down to the lady at the garden centre on sunday to see what she thinks. Worried about them for different reasons and think it'll be easier if she sees them.

Good luck with those. We've been advised to try and harden the seedlings up for the cold temperatures.

Been keeping seedlings in porch during the day and bringing them into the main house, which seems to have helped keep the mould away for now. Now my main seedling has got a leaf going brown. Hard this plant rearing...

Have just put some Onion seeds in the propagator, that's all so far, bit early yet. Plan to do a host of veges though and the normal annuals and hanging basket plants. Will start the about middle to end of February.

Another thing we're thinking of doing is at some stage buying a young fruit tree of a local variety. Here in Cornwall there are loads of apples, but we're quite interested in the local plum varieties if they can be bought from somewhere

Have you or anyone else on here any plans to grow anything yet?
