Well it was her husband actually to tell me my friend has been diagnosed with altzymers (sp). She's 56/57 yrs old and oh my god why her. He put her on the phone for me to speak to!!! They want to contact everyone and see people and places before its too late ....or before, as she says 'pops'.
l can't believe this is happening, she is such an active lady, a teacher, reiki healer, always busy busy busy - l'm in shock and so sad ---jude

She kept talking about her dog and how he is so good for her. She's been told to walk as much as possible and be active. They are coming to stay in the new year. This is so sad - we were the cheeky pair at work where l met her god knows how many years ago - in our twenties, we even dressed the same. she's my sons godmother - lifes a bummer. l'm off now, sorry and thanks all of you, l knew l would get support. xx jude xx

Sorry to hear that Jude. is she in a part of the country where she can get the drug that hold it back for a while. Not sure when it can be given now, there was some controversy over cost (isn't there always)?

I hope you can have a pleasant time with her making memories for you and her husband. Horrid disease, so cruel and it often seems to attack the very active bright people. In the 70s one of my son's ex teachers had it, she too was in her 50s.

(((hugs)))

So sorry to hear about that Jude. Was also going to mention that I thought there was a new drug that delays the full onset, so hope she is able to get it. Surely it is much cheaper to suply the drug than to have to provide the care later on.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend.

I believe it won't be long before there are really effective treatments for this disease but maybe not in time. These might be helpful.

I know from when my husband was very ill with cancer that learning as much as possible about a condition is vital if you want to receive the latest treatments.

I was part of a recent European citizens' deliberation on brain science and Alzheimers was one of the conditions we discussed for nearly two years. As a result of our report the EU has allocated a huge amount more funding for research into various brain conditions. I do know that a large number of scientists are working very hard on finding treatments and hopefully a cure.

Thinking of your friend and all who love her.

Jude, how sad for your friend, and her family and friends, and how brave of her and her husband to deal with the news this way. I do hope she will be able to hold her own for a long time yet and can get the best medication possible to help her too.
Every moment now will be very special, I hope you have a lovely time in the new year with her.
