When I told my dad he had some ancestors and distant relatives named Whalley, Dad once told me that my uncle was courting a girl named Whalley in his youth, but it never went anywhere as they believed there was a family connection.

Up to his generation, my dad's ancestors go back approximately 150-200 years in the Ormskirk area and I've also discovered that not only was one of my ancestors born a Whalley but at two separate points various distant relatives also married spouses named Whalley.

Perhaps it's just as well they don't live in the same area anymore. I was boggled to discovered that - even if they hadn't been married - my paternal grandparents would have been distantly related by marriage, and two of my gran's great-uncles managed to marry sisters as well.

Sometimes I feel like shouting, "Stop it!"

I have some in my tree, one guy who married his 1st cousin and then when she died married her younger sister (also his cousin). His kids would be half sibs and cousins to each other and cousins once removed to their parents, and step mother (who was also their aunt). As this second marriage was in 1919, I even had to check to see if it was legal. (it was).
Thankfully this was a side line. Phew.
However on the other side there's a lot of Cumbrian inter-marrying. Mainly between 2 families, one line is direct. (That'll account for the 13 toes and the hump).
Also 2 cases of 2 sisters marrying 2 brothers. As one set is direct ancestors it was a bit tricky to show on my genes tree so they all had to go on twice, so they show as each others sisters in law on one part and each others sisters on another, and the same with the brothers. Confused? I sure as hell was!

How's about this then .........

I am my own grandpa......please read !!!! It's funny!

Many many years ago when I was twenty three, I got married to a widow who was pretty as could be. This widow had a grown-up daughter Who had hair of red. My father fell in love with her, And soon the two were wed...... This made my dad my son-in-law And changed my very life. My daughter was my mother, For she was my father's wife....... To complicate the matters worse, Although it brought me joy, I soon became the father Of a bouncing baby boy....... My little baby then became A brother-in-law to dad. And so became my uncle, Though it made me very sad....... For if he was my uncle, Then that also made him brother To the widow's grown-up daughter Who, of course, was my step-mother...... Father's wife then had a son, Who kept them on the run. And he became my grandson, For he was my daughter's son...... My wife is now my mother's mother And it makes me blue. Because, although she is my wife, She's my grandmother, too....... If my wife is my grandmother, Then I am her grandchild. And every time I think of it, It simply drives me wild....... For now I have become The strangest case you ever saw. As the husband of my grandmother, I am my own grandpa! By Dwight B. Latham and Moe Jaffe

My eldest brother is married to a first cousin, our late Dad's youngest brother's daughter.

Both have the sandy blond hair and blue eyes of the paternal side of our family.

When we went out together in a group I was thought to be the girlfriend as I look like my Mother who has brown eyes... Scary....

They have two beautiful grownup daughters!

Lindy ;)))))))))))))))
