It's all to do with global warming, the weather is gradually getting warmer in the north (not that some of you would think at the moment after the dreadful summer in the UK) Therefore the larger spiders usually only found in the south are migrating further north as they are able to survive.

Here in Spain some of the spiders are HUGE :(((

I hate Daddylonglegs, evil little buggers.

Apparently their poison is the most lethal of all spiders but they can't penetrate skin because their antennae thingmejiggy is not sharp enough

Gross.

I hate the hairy, scary monsters, too! Got the fright of my life the other night as I came bounding downstairs - I saw something black running at great speed around the floor and thought it was a mouse. I couldn't focus on it at first. Then when it stopped I realised it was a bloomin' MASSIVE spider!!! (I would have preferred the mouse)

Talk about almost have a heart attack on the spot LOL - it was one of those with the massive body in the middle, and thick black legs. I knew it could see me, which is why it was running at such speed - and boy, did he move! Speedy Gonzales of the spider kingdom!

Well, Speedy is no more, I'm afraid. He had an accident with my flip-flop as he came charging towards me ...sorry, but I had to - I was hyperventilating and on the verge of collapse!

pmsl Athena, I agree they do seem to be running quicker. There is probably a 'Spiders are Us" out there that they all go to, to buy roller skates.

I live next to a pine forest (not posh - owned by MoD) and get all sorts of insects so have net curtains at all windows to try and stop them getting in! Couple of years ago had horrendous buzzing in my bedroom - I was petrified it looked like a huge bee/wasp type thingy - kept my eye on it then 'lost' it so stayed up all night listening ... was working then so had to ring in say I was not going in and ran local authority who gave me tel.no. for zapper man - when he arrived he found I had a hornets next in my eaves ... so he zapped them and came back again in evening to check they were all throughly finished off !
Cost a fortune - but L.A. only pay if you have small children - now that would be a miracle! Jx

There is a spray I bought a couple of years ago called "No More Spiders" - It did seem to work as I used to spray it around in my last home and didn't see many spiders for years. Doesn't kill them, just deters them.

I moved house recently and haven't unpacked yet so can't get my hands on that spray - but when I do I will blast my house with it from top to bottom LOL.

I have three conker trees overhanging my house/garden.. and I have ginormous spiders and Daddy-long-legs! I usually don't mind spiders, either, but they are too big even for me to deal with. The Daddy long legs I really can't stand, strange, isn't it!

*skips off to join neighbourhood kids who are all rummaging in my garden conker hunting)
