if this had happened to any of us, the S.S would have been involved and the twins would have been taken off us due to "child neglect"

It appears that the McCanns were given Arguido status as the Portuguese Police were aware that they were to return the the UK

Compassion is the word needed I feel, none of us are perfect!!!
If they are guilty they deserve any punishment they get,but I still feel sorry for them, and do hope they still find Maddy--call me naive but there are lots of people so quick to judge!!!
I feel they do right to come home as things have got a bit nasty out there.

The only person I feel sorry for is Maddie.

She had the right to expect to be protected by her parents, not left alone crying until all hours, as has been reported by locals and staff. If she was "abducted" then they should thank their lucky stars the twins were not also taken.

What amazes me is that GM went to the US, giving a lecture on missing children etc. Who is he to lecture anyone about children. Sorry, but, some people have treated this pair like heroes......There are too many inconsistencies in their stories...I just hope justice is done for Maddie

The most important thing about all of this is that a small, innocent, child has disappeared - we do not know how or why.
Let us not lose sight of that.

If Kate goes back to her GP job, I hope she wont be called in to child case conferences where children on the At Risk register are being discussed with views to whether they should stay on the register/be taken into care etc. Because the child's GP is often are invited to these conferences, and that would be an insult to the mother to have her there offering advice, considering. And Im not saying Kate is guilty, my own feeling is that whether she is guilty OR NOT, she shouldn't be giving advice (and criticism) over the way other people care for their kids.

I have tried to keep my opinion on this one stum, but what does me, look at Ben Needham in the early 90's who went missing off a beach in Greece, did his parents get the publicity that this has got, they were there supervising him, I can see how that can happen on a beach, we went to the coast during the holidays, I have 2 children one of us was seeing to the other child and getting the picnic out, looked up and the eldest who is 5 we couldn't see, she just wandered off, not said a word, didn't hear her. It wasn't busy, and she was sat on some steps 8 ft in front of us, would that be classed as neglect?? I feel for Maddie, like you say she deserves to be protected by her parents, but alot of people where I live have said, that yes they did neglect their children by leaving them unattended, but if, just saying if it was a family that were not as intelligent as the McCanns, say another family, they weren't doctors, they weren't as affluent as the McCanns, the SS be up in arms and rearing to go and take the other children into care, if you follow my drift.

Sorry don't want to cause offence, and if they are innocent, they will live with the guilt of leaving the children, but we all have the most horrendous days with kids, and nights and by gum I know, but they only time I have walked away when I have had enough of the crying the lack of sleep is when daddy is there to take pressure off. But if they are guilty and it may well have been an accident by hiding this, they have made the whole situation worse, it will all come out eventually. But if they are guilty they have made alot of people look very silly pleading for help.

Janet in Yorkshire Report 10 Sep 2007 12:33

That is one of the great causes of concern for me.
8 children under the age of 4yrs left unattended - one set of parents (both doctors) had a baby monitor. Of the other 6 parents, 4 were doctors.

Doctors are often called to give opinions in cases of child abuse and to advise parents on childcare, good parenting skills.

I find this most alarming. I have no children and have never criticised any of the parents as PARENTS for leaving their children - I do worry about the professional aspect of the 4 who were doctors though.

Janet, just to add, there would be no "why" or "how", if those parents had looked after their children.

I just hope Maddie is found, preferably alive, but I doubt that now, sadly:(

James,
Just to clarrify,

Little Ben Needham was in the care of his Grandparents at the time of his going missing,,,,the grandfather left him for minuites in the garden and he dissapeared,

I just dont think the P/P want to look nearer to home..

At this late date unless with a miracle that little girl will be seen again ,alive or otherwise,& she is not the first child to go long term missing from Portagual.

RStar Report 10 Sep 2007 13:41

Ben Needham wasnt on a beach. The farmhouse was very remote, and he was playing outside on the front. He was only left alone for a few minutes, and police are certain someone was watching them, it was planned. The grandfather blamed himself and his marriage split up. I do feel so sorry for that family.

'IF' she was snatched, somebody must have been watching their moves.
Dr's should have had more sense and known that is the way these people work.

That is if she was snatched.

All there is at the moment is a little girl has gone, whether abducted or murdered at this moment no one knows. All the rest regarding the Parents is what the Press/TV. etc.send out, nothing has been proved Yet, Untill then the only charge that can be bought against her Parents is "Neglect" Lets hope that she may be found and let all the Inuendo and Suposition remain just that."Inocent Untill Proved Guilty should be the norm. .M.

Ben Needham was a totally difference set of cicumstances.

i am so sorry to say but from the start of all this

(1) I would not leave my children unattended (even if they were a min away)
(2) Why did the twins not wake up?
(3) Why didn;t she wake up a make and scream
(4) too smug by half - i would be weeping and a wailing not want to be in front of press.
(5) I would want my own mum - come home asap
(6) I would close the curtains in the front of my house (when I got home) to make sure the press could not see me.

Just a thought!

I find it odd that there are so many different versions of what led to the outcome of Madeleine's disappearance. None of the versions seem in agreement with each other. There is no excuse for leaving children unattended, eight children in all, makes my heart weep what could have happened to them. If they did check on them every 30 minutes anything could happened during that time.
As professional people their common sense has a lot to be questioned.

But nothing is being done to these people who went to a quiz night and left their children.
There was baby sitting services available (at a price which I am sure they could afford) why didn;t they use them?
Too many thing do not add up - again i say from the start i thought it was not right but could not say anything because i would be hung drawn and quartered!
