Had my 5th chemo last Thursday. A new one called Taxotere. It really has knocked me for a six, and I've been very unwell.

Thing is now I have a rash on my chest...five little pustules on a red background in a half-circle, could it be shingles?

might be a reaction to the Chemo have you rung the hospital, they will be able to tell ou if its a known side effect.

Hi Dawn,

I know I should...I think it could be because chemo knocks out your immune system and gives shingles a toe hold.

Trouble is I am scared they will keep me in at the hospital, and I just SO hate the thought!.

Dee when my mum was having Chemo she had shingles, her GP gave her some pills to help with the pain. She wasn't taken into hospital though. I would give your GP a ring.

Hi all, thanks for advice.

I am to go either to the hospital tomorrow morning or to my GP to get the rash checked out. Apparently I will need Aclovir within 72 hours to prevent it getting worse, if it is shingles.

Think I would prefer to go to the hospital as sitting waiting in a GP's surgery where all sorts of virus's might be around may not be a good idea, considering my immune system is a rock bottom right now but TBH its hard enough even to drag myself out of bed!

If I were you I would insist that the GP comes out to you tomorrow.

You are at risk of even more infection by going to either the hospital or the GP surgery.

Have you got a forceful friend who could ask for a home visit and not take no for an answer?

Hi Dee, When my mum got shingles I phoned the GP and he sent out a District Nurse who diagnosed. He didn't want her sitting in the surgery waiting room, not that she could as at the time as she was poorly. So I would give your GP a ring in the morning and explain the situation. If you went to the hospital you could be there for hours.

Dee Sorry to hear about this new complication. I had Shingles some years ago and it was very painful - like sciatica of the nerve endings. Is your rash painful?

It is usually on one side only.

Hope you get it sorted out. Love from Liz

Hello everybody...yes, I think I will try and get a home visit tomorrow, if I don't feel any better.

The rash is to one side, near my mastectomy scar.. I do have pain, but then right now I have pain in all my bones and joints and muscles because of the side effects of this particular chemo! I am moving around like a hundred year old!!!

Am taking myself off to bed shortly, miserable as sin, bald, sans eyelashes or eyebrows, unless you count four lashes on one eye and two on the other!

Things can only get better (I hope)!
