I went to swimming lessons to do something different when my ex left me, I was 49 at the time and carried on lessons until the classes stopped as not enough ladies were interested to keep it open. Could swim lengths and jump in at deep end - am looking at starting a new course in Sept after 5 year break. Jx

I want to learn to swim - have tried before but never managed to do it.

One way of trying new places, Rose and others, is to house sit, if you google house sitting you can find many sites where you sign up, some you can just go and do it for free, others you get checked out and get paid for doing it. There are short sits and long ones, in the UK and abroad. Once I have sorted out my house and moved back there, I will be registering for sure and toddling off to cat or house sit for some free or cheap 'hols'

Hi Rose, I think it sounds a great way to see other places cheaply and meet new people too.
Good luck with your plans.

Off to bed in a mo, have to get up really early to get to Jules' wedding at 11 am! 45 miles from here so mustn't make myself late in case traffic is bad.

I agree that you should do some travelling, but lease the house. That way you still have a home if things go pear shaped, and you have some income while you're touring.
Lots of people come to Australia 'back-packing' and have a ball. I'm sure the principle would work whatever country you were in. Minimum amount of clothes in a back-pack and pick up work as you go - fruit picking, bar tending, whatever.
But make sure you have a lap-top so you can keep us lot informed of what you're up to!!
