Five thousand words were asked for, or so I saw it said
So I decided to sit and write them, before I went to bed.
I started out in verse form; well you just knew I would
Well, I thought that I would prove, that I could

I popped on here earlier, to read the Greaders thread
Do you think that I could find it? (well enough said)
We choose books to read you see, and I needed to vote
(but I saw the new format and went to get my coat)

it seems that names are changing , some people now divorced
(well I guess it’s a lot cheaper than going to the courts)
An amnesty has been called (or so it seems)
Our mate Kate has reappeared from behind the scenes

A guy called Ugly David has suddenly appeared
(but had anyone realised David Owen disappeared?)
I wonder how many others have changed their name
At my age I get so confused (oh what a shame)

The chat board now is threaded, what is that all about?
It’s enough to make all the chatterers scream and shout
I guess they’ll soon adjust, and be chatting once again
(I might even be tempted to pop on now and then)

Now here’s a question for you all, I wonder will it work
Shall I be able to post quizzes, or shall the task I shirk
I’ve several that I’ve worked on, I hope they will be fun
And that some of you will join in on each and every one

My old threads are so hard to find, but do I really care?
I looked for ‘my threads only’ but no it isn’t there
It seems I have to bookmark, well that isn’t new to me
Because I am a bibliomaniac, as you can all see

I read books in the daytime, and in the nighttime to
(well you see, it gives me something interesting to do)
I’m reading about madness in women at this point in time
(very apt really, people think I’m mad to write in rhyme)

Nearly two thousand characters, and I am getting rather tired
I really do think that it is time that I retired.
The challenge it has beaten me, but I have had some fun
The trouble is that sitting here, my bum’s gone rather numb

I’ll creep back into my bedroom, and sneak into my bed
Oh dear, hubby’s snoring (I think enough’s been said)
The dog has had me up, she needed to do a pee
(why ever can’t she be civilised and use the loo like me?)

Do you realise that now I am nearly half way there?
Will anyone do more than me? Come and try if you dare
But to be honest I’m so tired right now, I must give in
And pop downstairs and put out my rubbish bin

On Thursdays, you see, the dustman comes to us
(That ruddy dustcart, it’s bigger than a bus)
The foxes they destroy blacks bags, rubbish everywhere
And to be perfectly honest, the neighbours do not care

They put the bags out the night before, you see
And who picks up all the mess ( silly old me)
Chicken bones are strewn about
They could kill my dog, without a doubt

Nearly up to three thousand characters now
Shall I get applause do you think? Can I take a bow?
I guess I could pop down and make a packed lunch
A sandwich or two and a nice apple to munch

Now what shall I put in it? Ham, egg or fish
If I made sandwiches for you, for what would you wish?
Brown bread or white or maybe a roll, who can tell
(I am starting to bore you all, I can tell )

I just wanted to show you all what a **** poet I am

Now did those **** represent good or crap
I will let you make your own minds up about that
It’s all a matter of taste without a doubt
And some of you will, I guess, want to give me a clout

I’m creeping up to four thousand now, getting second wind
And while I have sat here typing, think of those who have sinned
And think of those who have been working hard,
While I sit here, pretending to be a bard

The phantom nudger, it seems is no more
He’s nudged up threads, by the score
Or maybe he’s a she, we don’t really know
But I for one am not sorry to see him go

How much more drivel can I find to write
I am sitting here trying with all my might
I could tell you all the gossip, right
But that would take all night

And to be honest my eyes are closing
And I really should be dozing
But it seems that a thousand more might do it
And then I will head for my snug pit

Do you think we will get used to it?
When Jean gets back, she will have a fit
She’s only gone away for a week
And GR has given this site a tweak

Now where’s that Muffy, I have stuff to confess
I am sitting here, surrounded by mess
Papers and books are spilling on the floor
(I’ll stop now, you don’t want to know more)

A few hundred more, or so I think
I’ll rattle them off before you can blink
Before you can message and say this stinks
I’ll be tucked up in bed having forty winks

The day has been rather cold, here in Kent
So a great thick coat did I put on, when out with the dog I went
We walked for several miles; it was muddy and rather wet
And a few very ripe blackberries, I did get

All this waffle must really stop, you will agree
I think I will just go downstairs and make a cup of tea
I’ll bring you all one back, just wait and see
And thanks a lot to everyone, for bearing with me

Dee, that's very impressive but my eyes hurt so much from this awful new board that I couldn't read to the end, sorry!
Maybe there should be a choice, old or new board, I know where I would be!

Hi Dee - Thought I'd pop back to see how new format working out.

Your verses are great. Reminds me of one of similar length a colleague wrote for my 30th birthday, about which I was having a life crisis.

I've gone back to my original board name (was Lancashire Lass) as same as one of Fam.Tree Forum. Also receiving e mails entitled dear Lancashire...

Another sleepless night. And, you've reminded me I need to stay awake long enough to put my dustbin bag out by the front door.
