I think on cases where children have been tortured like those ones mentioned on here, I think the parents should be slowly tortured like the poor kids were until death. Hanging would be too quick for these people who hurt kids like this.

Every one sentenced is deemed to have been found guilty beyond reasonable doubt. What about the Mums found guilty of murdering their babies, when several years later the judgement has been overturned and it has been attributed to have been SIDS? I don't think anyone who tortures a child over a period of time has any thoughts at all that it may end in murder, mmm, I shall be hung, so I won't do it. It is ANY act of deliberate cruelty that is wrong and should be dealt with, not just when the abuse is so severe that child tragically dies. It is the action itself that is the crime, rather than the intensity of the action. I don't agree with the death sentence - it is barbaric and makes society as sickening as the criminal. Jay

Yes we need a deterrent in this country. Rates of murders escalate each year. Little or no notice is taken of them. In this day and age with DNA chances of wrong person are small. However I would say if there is the slightest doubt then make life - exactly that life. We were constantly promised a referendum by various governments - we never got it - I suspect because they knew the outcome.
