I have just read the thread about Spiritualism. The Born Agains are against it. But what makes a Born Again? I went once - only once to their church - people were shouting Halleluja whenever they felt like it and going down to the front, to be - what? All they ever did was fall down backwards followed by some words from the 'pastor'. Give me spiritualism any day! I'm just a Christian, regardless of denomination. I try to live my life as one. Any observations??

Tell you what, I bet the 'Midwives ' had problems with them, it would be an extremely difficult Birth. Hal.:o))))>

Kitty - I'm in agreement with that!!

Andrew - I don't think so. We have been friendly with one since our son died but he can still kick us into touch when the mood takes him; I don't think that's very christian.

I think you are referring to the Evangelical Born Again Christians. There are many Born Again Christians who go to many other churches & do not shout out or fall down during church services. I think you have had a bad experience. Ails x

I really wouldn't know Ails. Just my experience. You could be right.

This is NOT a generalisation, just an observation from my own experience. All of the 'born agains' that I know have either had a bit of a chequered past or have become so out of some sort of massive guilt.

'is it just me or do most born agains have some form of criminal or dodgy past??' Andrew - have you read your Bible?? Jesus ate with the sinners because he likened it to 'the sick needing a doctor whereas the healthy do not.' I am offended by your analogy that most Born Again Christians have 'a criminal or dodgy past' in the context that you are trying to paint us all with a dodgy background and label us as unsavoury characters. Are these people of a different 'Sect' of Christianity? or just lapsed Christians who have returned to their faith?.Also do they have 'Rebirthing Pools'?. Hal .:o)))>

Could someone please explain the 'speaking in tongues' business - I have never understood that.

Born again Christians are merely following Christ's teachings so to mock them is, in my opinion, to mock the words of Jesus. The following is taken from St John's Gospel :- 'Jesus declared, ``I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. '' ``How can a man be born when he is old?'' Nicodemus asked. ``Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!'' Jesus answered, ``I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, `You must be born again.' ''

Believe it or not, Kris, not all Christians speak in tongues!! If you go to an Evangelical church you will find people speaking in tongues. It is where the Holy Spirit is supposed to enter the body and take it over making the individual speak in tongues. One of my brothers attends a church where this happens on a regular basis. I, personally, don't feel comfortable in his church as it is too 'way out' for me! My eldest brother is a Baptist Pastor & is very much against the speaking of tongues - I don't know why. In his church the congregation regularly shout out 'Hallelujah' during the service. I, myself, prefer a quieter way of celebrating my faith where I don't draw attention to myself. Ails x

Kris Report 30 Jul 2007 14:48

Thanks for that! I wasn't suggesting that every Christian spoke in tongues - I have just heard of it and didn't know what it actually meant - thanks for explaining :-)
