We went camping in Scotland, near Pitlochry one summer. We were supposed to be there for 2 weeks, but it rained from day one, and after 10 days, the whole campsite had got fed up of it and de-camped to go home...in brilliant sunshine! We played ludo and snakes n ladders a lot in our tent, and there was a Geordie family next to us, who's kid was trying to make soup sandwiches..which gave us the giggles. Dad fell off his chair against the side of the tent which wrecked the waterproofing, so one side was wet for the rest of the holiday.

it was for me the best years of my life. The freedom of starting work and having my own money. Meeting the love of my life. The music, the hot summer of 76, when I got engaged. Come to think of it the 80's were pretty great too - when I became a mum to a son and a daughter - after my husband the best people I love in all the world. Joy

The absolute best. 1970's for me was when everything was perfect, before reality hit home. I left school in 1976 and had the whole summer down the beach, everything in the 1970's were idyllic. Tina x

Platform shoes, loon pants, smock tops. I hated most of the music - could never stand the teeny-bop pop stuff. I married in 1976 (the first time) and remember his nibs wearing one of those kipper ties. My first house had an avocado bathroom suite and an orange kitchen! Gross. Jill

Sheila, we has the orange furry cutains too!!!! We also had a very lovely 'shag pile' rug in a chocolate colour!!!! Very trendy now!! I remember being able to go out all day on my bike (or neighbours go-cart) and come home at teatime with no worries.... not much traffic in them days compared to now and not so many loonies around!!!! Remember the dont waste water stickers we had during the drought in '76 and the song for the ad for milk - watch out, watch out theres a humphrey about!!!! Them were the days!!!! Clare x

Looking back I agree, the colours seemed horrendous.... We moved into this house in 1977, the living room was 3 walls avocado paint and one papered in that flock design in cream....our bedroom was 3 walls purple and one wall lilac....the bathroom was lilac tiles, lilac bathroom suite and purple on te top.....the kitchen was brown and orange with brown half tiling....luckily the rest was in magnolia......they took the shag pile with them..... we are now having the 70's style open tread, dog-leg stairs in wood removed , and a new beech straight staircase ...... it will make such a difference..... I remember psychedelic painted cars......and I was looking at the smock tops and wishing that some of the white and cream floaty ones had been around in the 70's, I would have worn them....

Oh yeah, I remember getting our annual crate of fizzy pop off the milkman at christmas....limeade, cherryade, cream soda, coke, lemonade and something else - it was the only time we used to get fizzy stuff!!!! And collecting all the glass bottles to take back to the shop to get 2p back on them - stone-age recycling me thinks!!! Clare x

I remember having nylon sheeting on my bed...UGH!..Horrible especially when I had my nylon nightie on and sometimes I would crackle and sparkle with the static.I'm mentally scarred for life because of this experience and now I can't bear to wear man-made fibres! I loved the cheesecloth shirts...Short sleeved and with a tie at the front hem to knot together. I remember my older brother wearing Oxford bags with 'Slats'...that is a certain type of trouser with a certain type of shoe.Think the shoes were called slatios(sp) Oh! The Texan bar...It must have been the dentists who got it banned! I get a twinge of toothache thinking about it... Sandra. xxx
