Seeing that there are various county threads springing up, I thought I should start the ball rolling for Lancashire (historical, that is, not the recent organisational rump!) So who hails from the Red Rose county? Gi'e us a shout, lads & lasses! Philip

I've lived in Preston or surrounding districts since I was 3 years old, when my father came to work here. I don't know what I can call myself as I was born in Stafford and my parents hail from Yorkshire! Lancstaffyorkie? We have some lovely countryside around this part of the world, as well as the Ribble Valley and the Pendle Witches. there are the Bleasdale Fells. You can be in the country within 20 minutes from where I live. Margaret

Can I play anyway? Born in Chatham and moved to Warrington at 6 months with the help of mum and dad. They may have messed about with the boundaries a bit and shoved it into Cheshire but Warrington is in LANCASHIRE!!!!!!!!! Eileen

Hi Philip, I spent my 'formative years' in Audenshaw, Manchester, in 1940's and 50's. So look on myself as a Lancashire Lass, although born in Lincs and having lived in a number of counties before settling here in Derbys. My father was from Manchester and his mother was one of 14 so must have lots of relatives around !!!!! One lived at the 'foot of Pendle Hill' Tracy. Anne

Thanks, everyone, for your replies so far. We may not be as noisy as some counties, but we all know where we stand when the chips are down! Yes, immigrants to and "friends" of all parts ofLancashire are welcome. We got chopped up by the local government reorganisation in 1974, and there's now supposed to be a great divide between Greater Manchester and the rest, but we know that's really an artificial one! I moved to Lancashire when I was about 2 years old, but have no real memories of where I was born, so count myself a Lancastrian by adoption and upbringing. Lived in Colne and went to school in Lancaster, so only moved away (to Yorkshire of all places!) when I went to university. Lovely countryside, as you've all been saying. We lived on the edge of Bronte country, just down the road from Wycoller Hall, and had great views of Boulsworth and Pendle. When I was at school, we used to visit Lancaster Castle, where the witches were hanged! Also fond memories of the Forest of Bowland and the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales around the Skipton/ Keighley area. Rools Royce at Bar'lick! Another important memory was football in the '50s and early '60s. Our local team was Burnley in its heyday, used to win the League regularly, my one regret was that it never completed the double, and was beaten by Spurs 3-1 in the epic of 1963! Have visited in recent years, and am delighted to see that they now hold an annual blues festival in Colne each July. And, of course, we still celebrate one of our greatest sons, Gus Hartley, who was bandmaster on the Titanic and returned to fame when the film was released in recent years. His bust still stands next to what used to be the Carnegie public library in Albert Road. I found a book of the Titanic in a shop on the south coast, published at the same time as the film, and there inside was a photo of his funeral cortege in 1912 when his body was recovered and returned to Colne. I recognised the photo shot down the street from the parish church and town hall immediately, and it looked very much the same, despite the passing of the years! Finally, my wife Paula was born in Manchester in coronation year. Although her family moved down to Oxfordshire when she was 9, her aunt and cousins still live in Shaw on the edge of Oldham so we are able to return regularly and admire that part of the Pennines! Keep 'em rolling in! Philip

Well now, Dawn, caught me out, eh? And there I was thinking I could be in two places at the same time withoiut anyone noticing! Anyway, must get back to the gazebo and local cider. How's your day going? (Folks, must explain that Dawn and I are Devonshire buddies, although she does live round the corner a bit, towards Cornwall! lol!) Philip

My Mum and Gran and Great Gran were all born in Widnes. Some idiot turned it into Cheshire back in 1974! My GG Gran was born in Liverpool and that,s definitely still in Lancashire. I think I can safely call myself a Lancastrian. Lol
