I agree with the majority here; swearing is best avoided (and I am in a profession famous for its language, and use it a lot when at work!). It is useful for letting off steam in a stressful situation; when it becomes part of everyday parlance, the effect gets lost. However, I do find it especially annoying to see swearing referred to as "strong language"; please keep it as "swearing", or "foul language". It is anything but strong; it is weak, the sign of someone who cannot think of what to say next, or who feels the need to exude "machoness", or who has to pad his otherwise empty statements. Rob |

Can I just say again that this wasn't a who's right and who's wrong thread, it was simply to guage reaction. The person in question wasn't "having a go" at me, just making a request. I do take issue with Roberts comment though, that he is agreement with the majority. It seems to me from re-reading this thread that the majority were not bothered. |

Paul, was somebody having a laugh by objecting to your wording?? Im not taking the mick (could have put that a bit stronger but i won't) but i really am amazed that it could cause offence to anyone. Rob, what job is it that you do that swearing is a common practice? |

Linda, A very well put arguement, however what I personally would say is... live and let live. It's OK for you to not like it, that's your personal opinion. But perhaps you need to accept that the majoirty on here don't seem to mind, and therefore perhaps you just need to accept that there will be the occasional post that you don't approve of. I'm sure most on here accept your viewpoint, what they don't want is to be told what to do (which I accept is not what you were doing). oh and one more thing - this is a friendly debate, not a slagging match, if anyone posts anything nasty on here I'll just delete the thread. Paul |
