How sad for your friend Heather she is around the same age as me (58). One of my aunts had this but not till later in life and o.h.'s grandfather had it too. Hope something can be done to help Heather with the throat problem especially and that soon a cure will be found, or at least something to help keep the symptons at bay. Take care, Brian.

Hi Brian, Just seen this thread, again. My Mum and Dad moved into a flat last year as Dad was getting really bad. He started going to a care centre twice a week which gave Mum a little bit of respite. Now his eyesight has virtually gone and he can no longer walk. He is waiting to be assessed to get day care in a local hospice as they are geared up for his needs. As you say the deterioration is pretty unbearable. He hardly sleeps, cat naps here and there. That is the main thing, my mum can't ever get a decent nights sleep. She is exhausted with it all. They moved a bit nearer to us, still 35 miles, so I can only really get to see them ever 2/3 weeks. Sending positive thoughts for your friend too. I know only too well how this disease affects the whole family not just the sufferer. Dianex

Brian My heart goes out to Heather. My father had that terrible disease. The encouraging news is that they are making fantastic progress with the drugs and it can be well controlled now. I wish Heather well. Jean x.

Not good news. Going down to see them again tomorrow. When I spoke to Rob last night it sounded as if she has deteriorated further, they have had to have a stair lift put in and are going to see a surgeon in July to see if an operation might help. I'm not sure if I would be able to put up with that kind of disability myself.
