Hi Kylie, My father was named Ernest after his father. One of his aunts disliked the name and refused to call my father Ernest. She always referred to him as 'BOY'. So that is what he has been known as ever since. It comes as a surprise to most people to discover that his name is Ernest. Some people think his name is Boyd, or Roy. My mother in law is called Lily. When she married she became Lily White. Jenny |

The weather lady on BBC SE is Kaddy. Sounds like a french supermarket trolley (Caddie) which is sometimes called a chariot, so perhaps we should call her that? D |

Another funny combination of names was that of my GP - now retired. His name was MILES FERRARI - I used to wonder if his middle names were PER HOUR! |

Just as odd as the names people choose are the combinations that make up the initials. Next week I am going to the christening of my stepniece's baby. When she was born last year they told me she would be called Jessica Ann - her surname begins with F. When I pointed out that her initials would be JAF they didn't seem to have realised but said oh that doesn't matter. Well it might not matter now but what about when the child comes home from school crying cos she's been called JAFFA CAKE OR JAFFA ORANGE? Doesn't take a lot of thought to add another name to change the word, ie using the mum's name or a grandparent's name after the Ann. |

One of my sisters has Silver May and Delta Storm. Another sister has Boen. A couple I knew from way back had Clara-Angelique. She would only answer to the whole thing. |

A famous author called Zane was born a long time ago- 'Zane Grey, the greatest storyteller of the American West, was born in Zanesville, Ohio, on January 31, 1872.' I suspect that Zayne is spelt like it is through the similarity to Wayne. |

There are a lot of names I think are weird and wonderful but I'm loathe to put them on here in case they offend a parent who has called their pride and joy one of them!! A friend has called her boys Levi and Reo (they didn't realise the place was spelt Rio) and she thinks I'm weird for calling my bub George Henry. One person's idea of a lovely, tasteful name is often another's idea of child torture. xx |
