Haven't been to Luton - managed to avoid it during the time I lived down that way, but I did have to drive once through Hemel Hempstead, with its 'Magic Roundabout'. For those that don't know what I'm talking about, it's one of these roundabouts that have little mini-roundabouts spurting off the main one. So, it is possible to go the wrong way round the roundabout. Was in danger of needing counselling after that experience. I believe Swindon has one as well.

I live in Nottingham [a city ] and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Every Town/City has got good and bad aspects. I do think these type of books are rather harsh on the majority of good citizens who live good decent lives in these places. Cheers [rather narked at the rubbishing of my home town] Carole.

Northampton should be there - we have some of the worst 'traveller ' problems in the country. We also have a 'red light' tollerence area - which the locals have to tollerate... We have the oldest cobbled market place in the county..which the council keep talking about 'block paving'... But if there is a saving grace- i can go to Milton Keynes on the train and see the concrete cows overlooking the railway. Reading the other replies, i remember the magic roundadbout opening in Hemel Hempsted - half of Hertfordshire ground to a halt!...and had to go round it on my driving test some years later . Jess
