I live in Bristol now but we have South Gloucestershire at the end of the road. I grew up in Hanham and went to school in Kingswood. My grandfather came from Moreton in Marsh and went to school in Chipping camden. One of my great grandmother's came from Stow on the Wold where the wind blows cold. Really nice weather today. We got up early to see the balloons take off at the Bristol balloon fiesta.

Hi Ann. Like Lara, I'm in Australia, but will be in Gloucestershire in Sept. My wifes ancestors ( before coming to Oz ) lived in Painswick, and various Villages. We will be driving around Gloucesteshire, and the also visiting many Villages in the Cotswolds. We are both looking very forward to visiting this part of England. Tony Oz

Hi Im not from Gloucester but my brother lives in Innsworth, he was in the RAF but retired a good few years ago and bought an ex-RAF house, still lives there now, and said he would never return to Liverpool to live, much prefers Gloucester. I have been down there a few times and I can understand why he wont return. We use to go to the village hall in Churchdown for a game of Bingo. Regards Yvonne

Nice to see this thread resurrected. Rose, very remiss of me, of course you can be an honourary member, and Kerry Chepstow is so close, you too. I used to live in Lydney and oftten shopped in Chepstow. Quite a few with connections to Churchdown i see which is where we are now and have been since 1992. I know there are others in Gloucester as there was another thread on the subject, somebody in the Forest, and Care in Quedgely. Anyone else not come out from behind the settee yet? Ann Glos

The ancient town of Chepstow is still in Monmouthshire/Gwent, the River Wye is the boundary. The bits to the east of the river (Sedbury, Tutshill) are not truly Chepstow.

We've just back from the Gloucestershire Family History Society Open Day and spent the rest of the time visiting family.Reading these threads has made me more nostalgic for home, especially Churchdown,my daughters used to have to run up the hill for Cross Country running, while the teachers went up in the car.We always went blackberrying up the hill too.

Hi Ann, all my rellies from Stonehouse, sadly they have all passed now. Used to love sitting in signal box with station master when a kid. Went back last year and the station has become a mass of metal and lost all of its charm.suex
