My beautiful black cat, Alfie, went out last night and hasnt come back. He normally comes back to sleep on his fleecy radiator bed all day but when he wasnt back by lunchtime I started to worry. I have done posters and put them through lots of neighbouring letter boxes and put them up on telegraph poles and even one in the pub across the road. My other cat Millie, his mum, keeps looking out the cat flap for him. I dont know what else I can do just now. All cat lovers out there, please keep your fingers crossed that he comes back safely. Jill Saturday pm.(Sorry didnt post this earlier but have been at the hospital all morning) I went down to the kitchen at seven this morning, opened the door and there he was!!!! He does look at bit thinner and he is slightly subdued but other than that he looks fine. I dont think he has been shut in anywhere as his claws look ok. I think he has just been off for a wander somewhere. He has been following me about and wanting a lot of fuss since I got back. It is so wonderful as thought I might never see him again. I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to all the wonderful people on this site who have been so supportive and thoughtful. All of your messages have kept me going. Thanks again, Jill.

Jill, try ringing your local RSPCA branch, Cat Protection League and local vets. When we've found a stray cat we've rung these people, and they've all been very helpful and most of the cats have been reunited with owners. Good luck, hope Alfie turns up soon. Is he microchipped? Let us know how you get on. Glenys x

Linda. Yes I have asked on the posters for them to check garages, sheds etc. I am hoping that as people are starting to come home from work now they might start looking. Glenys - yes he is micro-chipped but refuses to wear a collar. Will trying phoning. He was a rescue cat seven months ago. I have everything crossed at the moment!! Jill

Am thinking of you, Jill - at least he's microchipped! Most of the strays that we've found aren't. When he comes home, tell him off from me but then give him a cuddle from me, won't you. Ta! Hugs to Millie, too, from Chloe, Midge, Pepper, Sooty and Topsy (our latest rescue cat, been with us 7 months!!). x

Jill, our cat Thomas went missing for 8 weeks about 3 years ago, he was knocked down about 300 yards up the road, and we were one of the houses that wasn't notified. We rang round all the local vets, put up posters, and he was with one we had considered to be too far away. Dont give up hope. We also had a stray living in an outhouse (because of dogs and cats in the house) who went missing last July, I went out to the freezer that is kept in the outhouse about 2 weeks ago and she was sitting there demanding to be fed. I was so please to see her she had salmon that day. They seem to wander off at a whim. Hang on in there, Christine

Jill, its easy to say but try not to worry too much, once we had a cat and he went missing for 3 weeks,we'd only had him for about a month but he got out,we put up posters, went searching and the local cat rescue lent us a cat trap but to no avail the one day i was sat there and he just trotted down the garden path like he'd never been away, Karen

Thanks for all the kind thoughts and advice. Margaret in Hertfordshire - thanks for the website and have had a look. Although it is not my area they had some great advice about who to notify so will be doing all of that first thing tomorrow. The terrible thing about this is that I have not been able to have cats for the last twelve years because of the places I have been living in so when we moved to this small village it was the ideal opportunity. Alfie is a rescue cat who had been born and lived his whole life in a rescue centre so it was wonderful to watch him venture out on his own for the first time and explore everything! I think I will be knocking on doors tomorrow. Even my other half, who has always been a dog person, has been out searching and putting up posters and even getting a bit tearful himself. Thanks again guys and keep those fingers crossed. Jill in East Sussex

I am sure Alfie is OK - he may have got shut in a shed.Ask all your friends. That was where our little one was when she got lost in a high gale. All night long I kept thinking I could hear her,but the wind was so high I could not locate where her tiny mew was coming from.I walked for hours looking in grdens etc. She turned up the next morning. She had been 2 doors up all night.Quite safe. Alfie will be fine-Rose

Know just how you feel, ours disappeared a year ago, she was ill and on meds so we were desperately worried. Daughter and I went round putting notes thru letterboxes and posters on lampposts - little madam came home that night! We also posted her on some online petsearch sites - might be worth doing, you can upload a photo too. I do feel for you - hope pussycat comes home soon. Big hug from Lisa

No news yet but i am just off out to put more posters through letter boxes. Someone came to the house earlier saying they thought they had seen him near a farm round the corner from us. We went and had a look but it wasnt him although it could have been his brother as he looked very like him. Thanks for all your kind thoughts and I will let you know if there any developments. Jill
