You can NEVER have 100% certainly that someone is guilty. Even when DNA is used, it is DNA PROFILING. This basically means that you could be one of say 10,000 people in the country with the same DNA profile. Of course the use of DNA will certainlty improve (Moore's law etc), but that still doesn't help twins!! So, chances are, if you have capital punishment, you WILL kill someone who is innocent. Chances also are, that the poorer you are, the more likely you are to be executed. So given that the fact that it is NOT a deterrent, and can never be faultless, why take the certainly to kill innocent people? Not in my name thank you very much.

What about people who fund raise for terrorists? No wonder the Americans are scared. Its never stopped them from funding Noraid though, has it? (or putting the Taliban in charge of Afghanistan in the first place)

In answer to Victoria's question, capital punishment for high treason and piracy with violence was abolished as late as 1999, I'm not sure whether arson in HM dockyards is still a capital offence!

Lucia If you are researching the subject, I find it surprising you should state your own unequivocal views. Could it be that you need a platform? Len
