i know what you mean christopher, anyone who has riden will know also that if a horse doesn't want to do something then he won't they'll stop before the fence and you'll go flying over. i also know that some horses love to jump fences even if you don't want them too, that can have the similar effect. lol

Does anyone know if there are any greys in it this year - I always put a couple of quid on them if there is - never won a thing though - think it's about 1963 since a grey last won. I used to always watch horseracing with my dad on an old black & white TV and the greys were the only ones I could pick out. Carolyn

Not looked at the race yet but the promised wet weather is going to turn it into a quagmire so you are looking for a horse that likes bottomless going and also stays forever and also jumps well! (hard choice methinks) Dave

To be honest, I can't watch horse racing especially with those huge steeples. I can't bear to see them fall and get injured. Thats me, sorry if you think I'm daft. Jo.

Chris, agree with you about safety. The idea about the fences being lower is a bit of a nonsense in my view as hurdles cause no lesser fatalities. Speed and fast ground are more contributory factors. I was sad to learn that Farmer Jack, a late fancy for the Gold Cup, died from a heart attack whilst only doing a light gallop at home, but for me it merely illustrated that it can happen at any time. p.s. last grey to win was Nicholas Silver in 1961, though What's Up Boys finished a close second to Bindaree in the race, 3 years ago. You have to go back nearly 100 years to find the last French trained winner for anyone fancying 'Innox'.

mike i agree that animals do die in every sport but the difference is with the grand national.they have jumps that are higher than some jumps in other areas.some horses are either too exhuasted or are not capable of jumping themxxxxxx):

My colleague reckons Lord Atterbury is a good thing. Apparently won a race recently well ahead.
