OCD is OBSESSIONAL COMPULSIVE DISORDER - most people hear about the repetitive handwashing till your hands are red raw, and there are some people who are so concerned that they haven't locked up the house as they go out that they have to go back and check it dozens of times, others who can't read a certain word in a book without having to go back and read it again or read the same page again, others who are terrified of walking near dog dirt that they will turn back if they see some, and most of them fear that if they don't do 'their' action then something bad will happen to someone they love. The list is endless - what worries one person won't bother another but they will have a diffferent fear. It is also believed to be genetic and one of our group has a son who has developed it too. Some people have suffered for 30 years or more because no one knew how to treat them years ago. There are many sites on this subject and the more understaning there is, maybe the less the stigma will become. The late Howard Hughes was a sufferer - see the film The Aviator. Also Paul Gascoigne is a sufferer and many other famous people whose names I can't recall right now. |
