Hi guys, some of you will know Ive had a really bad time lately and I just want to get away for a few days - doesnt have to be weekend. BUT I am not a confident driver so it will have to be a coach/rail job. So, guys, where shall I go all on my own. Would like a bit of seaside but also something to keep my interest during the day/evening. Most of my ancestors were from Norfolk or London and as I live in Norfolk and was born in London - nope neither of those. The only other big clutch were from Brighton/Pevensey. Brighton not a good place to be on your own I dont think. So suggestions gratefully received. |

Head up north TC........ York or Lincoln are good.......... not seaside but plenty to do and look at. If sea you must have head for Cleethorpes, but keep an eye on the weather forecast, it's easy to go for days out from there if you can't find enough to keep you occupied. Mandy :-) by the way if you decide on Lincoln, while you are there could you nip in the records and.................. LOL |

If you enjoy walking then Stow on the Wold is a beautiful place to spend a few days. |

If you contact your local coach company they will tell you where they go - lots of them do excursions for a few days away. Similarly, railway companies offer deals for weekend/away breaks. Brighton and anywhere else will be fine - there are always dodgy areas, but you can avoid them. nell |

I agree York is the ideal place to go . Plenty to do and see easy to get to I think ( it is from here). Lots of nice hotels and B&B's within walking distance of the city. I must say I am biased York is my most favorite place I have only ever been one other place on holiday. Not really me Benidorm when I got made redundant. No York for me everytime no matter what the weather is like you can't go wrong. Wherenver you choose TC have a good time you deserve it. Germaine x |

Many replies guys, much appreciated. Yes York is lovely, have 'done' it several times though. Ditto Lincoln, where son was at uni. I think I will contact local coach companies tomorrow. Me and all the OAPS eh? Kindest thanks. |

Hi TC, I live a few miles away from Pevensey and it's lovely! Lots of coach companies run trips to eastbourne which is just down the road (literally) from pevensey. If you decide to come here mail me and maybe we could meet for a coffee. sarah xx PS, from Eastbourne you could get a train to Brighton for the day! |

Well, looked on railtrack and I can get an advance ticket for £41 return York. But Eastbourne involves a lot of train changes which I hate. Shame York isnt nearer the seaside. I looked up local coach companies trips - SO expensive - a trip to the Eden Project in Cornwall with an overnight stay was nearly £200. I dont want to go anywhere where I feel obligated to visit a relative which cuts down the options. |

Hi TC what about Scarborough that isn't too far away from York ( I think) and then you could go to York for a day out. I have never been but heard it is nice. Germaine x |

Oh TC, it's such a shame that it costs so much to get to Cornwal, coz the Eden Project is fantastic. I've been twice now and really enjoyed it both times. c x |

Im going to sit in one of those shelters facing the sea, knitting in my hands, big shopping bag with my sandwiches and legs straddled showing my just above knee pink satin knickers. Oh God, the day will come. |
