Ann and Suzy...... BLUGGER is a relation of the Banana....it looks like a banana is a bit fatter.....it MUST be cooked...either in casserole or steamed or.....sliced and fried with sugar....best way. Plantain must also be cooked....same as blugger but before it is ripe sliced really thin and fried and then salted - chips! lovely.. They can be cooked green (unripe) or ripe (best for frying) Banana is also eaten green as a vegetable only then it is called green fig. Suzy...spices - anything to hand really, be adventurous. My husband uses cloves in stews too but just use mixed spices or thyme and Rosemary...they also use Bay leaf but it's not quite the same as ours. Sythe here is a bit like spring onions but they use it all the green as well. Jacquie xxxx

Dave sorry you feel like a canibal eating haddock but Cod. You don't get many of us in Fleetwood liking cod. Give that to the dog!!! We are spoilt aren't we, mind you there isn't the fish about nowadays. I remember when I was little going round with parcels of fish for everyone. And Cray fish (scampi) by the pillow case full cheap as chips. Shrimps by the gill I remember going for some bought gills instead of pints what a lot my dad said well I will pay but you can pick, potted shrimps for ages. Prefer brown shrimps to prawns. Yesterday we had cold salmon with baby new potatoes and a salad with various leaves, tomatoes, cucumber. Today I got some ham for another salad, but we will have that tomorrow as I have some leftover mince that needs eating. It's been browned with onions and red peppers, so I am going to (honestly its really nice) mix in some grated fresh apple, sultanas and green olives and have it with tagliatelle. nell

BC....just seen fresh Mango....ours are just coming ripe now!! Suzy....Recipe....they don't do recipe's.... If with burnt sugar.... Put oil or butter in Pot...add brown sugar and wait till starts to get black - then throw in your meat and stir around and let it simmer down add seasoning.....garlic, onion, pepper and whatever else is handy (the more the better) add water and cook for a while....then put in rice and split peas, blugger and whatever else you have and cook on top of stove till it's ready. That's my husband's words....... If just stewed.....as above but without the sugar. Local seasoning would be sythe and thyme..... Jacquie xxx
