Hi Bec, it's still morning here so have a bit of weekend left! However we spent most of yesterday at Toronto airport, either in a queue or sat on the tarmac, this was after our flight was cancelled on Friday due to bad weather. It's about 93 deg.F here and humid so I think we'll be taking it easy! Did you have a good holiday? |

Weekend isn't over yet! I still have a cold, but its getting better. Yesterday husband and I had a long talk about what needs doing around the house and life, the universe and everything, which made me feel much more positive. I finished reading 'Hell Riders' which I can thoroughly recommend. It's about the prelude to, the actual event and the aftermath of the Charge of the Light Brigade. It debunks various myths about the number of soldiers killed, Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole's roles in nursing and ties up lots of loose ends. It is gripping and well-balanced. It says that so much of the public perception of the charge is based on Tennyson's stirring poem, but Kipling's poem about how many of the people involved in the event were in the workhouse was largely ignored. It's by Terry Brighton & published in paperback by Penguin. I'm all on my own, husband and elder son have gone off to rugby training and younger son is swimming with friends. The sun is shining and I'm listening to Tchaikovsky's 5th symphony at the moment. nell |

Hi Bec Thank you I have had a lovely weekend. went down to stay with friends in exmouth from Thursday PM and returned today. Another friend (female ) was staying with them too. Thursday evening we met up with other friends from Sidmouth plus two more couples who were staying with them, so that made 11 of us for a chinese buffet at a local hotel. Friday all the men were playing golf and the three ladies from Exmouth (me included) went for a walk out along the sea front and had lunch at the cricket club. we five from Exmouth then drove to sidmouth and left the car at our friends house there. after a drink in the garden, sitting on a bench that commemorates the death of the husband of the lady staying with us at Exmouth, we all walked down into Sidmouth through a lovely riverside NT walk to watch a display over the sea, in glorious sunshine, of the Red Arrows. Then we had a meal (booked or we would not have got a table) in the bedford Hotel. walked back to Janet and Gerald's for coffe, wine etc then drove back to Exmouth under a glorious full moon. Saturday morning we five drove back to Sidmouth again and met up with yet another couple and had a drink in the sunshine in the garden, then walked down into Sidmouth where the 13 of us had a lovely five course lunch at the Riviera hotel which lasted from 12.30 to 3pm. back again to janet and gerald's more drinks, chat, tea, coffee in the garden before driving back to Exmouth. Today we drove home via Cribbs causeway shopping mall and M&S etc. The link between all the couples is that the 6 men and one of the ladies were all in the R Navy together and the men plus the widow's husband all joined up together in 1955. we try to get together once a year. So a lovely weekend, good company , good food and excellent weather. Ann Glos |

I did have a nice weekend but by the sound of it not as much fun as yours? My Dad came over and laid some carpets for us - saved us a small fortune too. I don't see him very often so it was nice to catch up too. Hope you didn't have too much of a hangover? Kaye x |

Hi Bec, Look at you - all posh with your pink champagne!!! Glad you had a nice time. I didnt have the best of weekends - covered for my friend at work so worked all day. (At least it was raining so I didnt miss out on any sunbathing) Then Mark decided to go out last night after I hadn't seen him for much since Thursday night. Wasn't very impressed I can tell you! Still, no point dwelling on misery lol! Feeling much better now! Natalia xx |

Hiya Bec !! You should have seen the garden this morning - what a state !! Andy won the looking green at the breakfast table competition - with honourable mentions going to me, Jan and Yvette. Your absence was duly noted lol. I thought Bob the Business Analyst stood up well to the questioning from Jan and the other 'aunties'. My lips are sealed with regards to the gym mats too hehehe. So yes, a very nice weekend thanks :-)))) Rick & Jan.xx |
