1. Click on START. 2. Click on CONTROL PANEL. (On some PC's you may have to click on FIND and then CONTROL PANEL or click on MY COMPUTER and then CONTROL PANEL.) 3. From the list, click on DISPLAY. (For those of you using Windows XP who don’t have a list displaying, at this point, look to the left of your screen and click on SWITCH TO CLASSIC VIEW – you should now see the list that I am talking about now – click on DISPLAY.) 4. A box appears with labeled tabs – click on the DESKTOP tab. The box appearing now has a picture of a monitor and should be displaying the picture that is now showing on your desktop. 5. Your PC comes equipped with a few standard desktop backgrounds that you can choose if you wish. Note the list below the picture of the monitor. If you double click on any one of the items it will display in the small monitor to give you an idea of what it will look like. If you like one of the standard themes click on APPLY and then OK at them bottom of the screen. It will now appear as your desktop. If you wish to customize your desktop by using a picture you have on your PC, first know where the picture is located. I’ll use MY DOCUMENTS as an example. 1. Starting after step #4 – under the picture of the monitor, locate the BROWSE button and click on it. 2. A screen now appears and at the top of that screen is a LOOK IN field. At the end of this field locate the “v” and click on it. 3. A drop down box appears listing all the locations on your PC. Scroll and find MY DOCEMENTS and click on it. MY DOCUMENTS should now appear in the LOOK IN field. 4. Now below the LOOK IN field, where it now should be showing MY DOCUMENTS you’ll note all the folders and files that you have stored in you’re MY DOCUMENTS. Scroll and locate the picture that you have stored here and now wish to have appear on your desktop (you may have to double click on the name of the picture.) The picture should now be showing on the picture of the monitor. 5. Click on APPLY and then OK and the picture will now appear on your desktop. A NOTE: There are three different ways that you can have a picture displayed on your desktop. You can have the picture cover the whole desktop, center it so that the picture displays in the middle of your desktop or tiled, which kind of breaks the picture up into sections when it’s displayed on your desktop. Under the BROWSE button you’ll see a POSITION button where you can adjust how the picture looks. Choose the position you want and click on APPLY and OK. |
