As those that have been here a while will know, one of my favourites is 'Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive'. (yes, I feel it's relevant, thats why I'm posting it) Someone just used the expression 'no smoke without fire' in an email to me too, which in fairness isn't always true, in the context to which it's often used, but in most cases it probably is. Whats your favourite ?

If 'ifs' and 'and's' were pots and pans, there'd be no need for tinkers. My great grandfather was a Tinker and this saying was obviously more relevant to him in the 1870's than now when you can buy a new kettle for £5.95 !! Sad really but the meaning is still true. Julie

There's no fool like an old fool! There's many a true word spoken in jest. There's nowt so queer (strange) as folk. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. We're short of nowt we've got. A stitch in time saves nine. He who hesitates is lost. Once a king, always a king, but one a (k)night's enough.
