My mother used to quote to me something her mother said to her - Little dabs of powder, Little licks of paint Make the farmer's daughter Look what she really ain't. I've never taken any notice, and if it's good enough for Joan Collins, it's good enough for me. I loved the quote Dolly Parton came out with when asked by a TV interview how much she spent per year on her appearance. She said, 'It costs a fortune to look this cheap!' Priceless! cb (hiding because she's not supposed to be here) |

Love that quote CB, Dolly has them by the score. Well I don't use make up it would take me far too long to do something with this face and I can't be bothered with all that. From childhood I have always wondered why women have to wear make up and men get away with being natural? it just never made sense to me. I feel very uncomfortable wearing eye shadow, massacre and lippie, can't help it never liked it just wished I had a face that didn't need it. Ah well I would probably make a pigs ear of trying to paint this face, so I don't bother. Pat x |

Hi Bryan I don't wear makeup at all when I am home only if I know visitors are coming. If I go out socially I do dab a bit here and there especially around the eyes. But I am involved in Amature Theatre so then the really heavy thick stuff goes on. You look a different person with all that heavy makeup and the bright red lipstick. Mind you I can't say I like it much. I can't wait to get it all off my face at the end of the night. Clogs the skin up and you have to use lots of creams to get back to normal lol. But yes I agree it can changed the way you look. Have a good day Regards Jackie |

Oh Goody, a chance to quote one of my favourite poems by WB Yeats - If I make the lashes dark And the eyes more bright And the lips more scarlet, Or ask if all be right From mirror after mirror, No vanity's displayed: I'm looking for the face I had Before the world was made. What if I look upon a man As though on my beloved, And my blood be cold the while And my heart unmoved? Why should he think me cruel Or that he is betrayed? I'd have him love the thing that was Before the world was made. Gwynne |

LoL!! Less is more as you get older, I always wear my lipstick even doing the house work, but my normal wear is mascara and lipstick, sometimes blusher if I look pale but thats it, I think it looks awful when you see an older woman with plastered make-up, in my younger days I would wear the works, but not any more, Oh and for very special occasions I wear eye shadow but very rarely!!! |

I was always told to 'accentuate the positive' where make-up is concerned, i e make the most of your best features. When I find them, I will. Meanwhile, how do you hide a huge nose? cb (still not supposed to be here) |

Hi Bryan I don't wear any, never have - well, a bit of black eyeliner now and then as a teenage gothling 20 years ago. Always thought 'why pretend bits of my face are blue, or pink, beige?' when I was younger. Only time I wore makeup recently was at the Rocky Horror Picture Show, when I went as a dead biker! Axe gash on forehead and black eye. And the weirdest thing was that a gorgeous Swaziland boy (way out of my league) was strangely drawn to me! Anyway, dimples always work for me! xx Jen |

Hi Roxanne, As you get older you adapt and wear more subtle shades. No black eyeliner or mascara and choose less exotic colours for eyeshadow and lipstick. I wear glasses some of the time and without eye make up my eyes disappear. Gwynne |

Gwynne, so true, I would wear so much make-up when I was younger, but now wear browns and lighter shades, the only thing I that I really wear thats bright and bold(in mak-up) is my lipstick. I love bright lipsticks. Roxanne x |

Hi Bryan For evenings out or special occassions I wear a dab of foundation, in a failed attempt to make my patchy skin look blemish free. Eyeshadow and mascara, in a failed attempt to make my eyes look young again and lipstick, in a failed attempt to make my lips look young and full:)) More important though, on a bad hair day I feel and look about 92. On a good hair day I only look about 76 LOL:)) Chrissie x |

Rox & Gwynne, So that's me pigeonholed then! LMHO Never mind. The only other GR member who has ever seen me devoid of make-up didn't complain or run away, so I ain't too bothered. One thing I've never worn is bright red lipstick. It looks awful on most people, and especially so on me. cb (still not really here - just called in on a lunchbreak) |
