I think I could starve to death quite comfortably as I never seem to feel hungry. However, I might be tempted to have a little nibble at Wendy, providing she was served not too rare. Oh - with a little side salad, please, and a glass of red wine. len |

Have to agree with Elaine, about taking a tooth pick! Its an abhorrent thought to most of us, but if I was starving I would have no hesitation in eating the dead...or anything that was around. The will to survive is a basic human instinct. Thankfully most of us will never experience it ...but never say never? |

Been thinking about this, what about eating bits of yourself? Like slicing bits of thigh off or something? Dunno where this idea came from, a book or film or a real story but I seem to recall some guy who ate his own leg. But it may have been already almost severed? If you wouldn't eat another person, how about that? xx Jen |

HI all. I really dont know if i could. But if it is a caseof living, then who knows. There is a book called 'Alive' by Piers Paul Read. This film is based on this book as the author interviewed some of the survivers Very good book. Many years ago i was the nanny to the authors children, so i guess i am a little biased re the book. deb :-) |

Another interesting thread and quite emphatic answers on both sides of the coin. Good healthy debate. Personally I dont think I could eat another person but like everyone else wouldnt know unless I was in a desperate position. I do wonder though whether the climatic conditions at the time of the plane crash had a bearing on the subject - do I remember this right? the plane crashed on snow and ice? (if its not correct I must be thinking of another occasion). Well, my rambling point is............I thought that the body could survive with WATER for longer than food (of any description) and I therefore imagine that the cold made the hunger worse than the starvation which drove the individuals to taking the extreme action they did. Does that sound logical? Therefore, if you were stranded in the hot wet steamy jungle for instance but had water, could you survive without food for a greater period of time? Jacqui |

If I was in such a position, morals would be the last thing on my mind. ...so would be religion...but then religion would most likely comfort the few as they die a slow and painfull death. But having never starved to death before I believe, in the end, the instinct to survive would most probably take over. And eating a dead human peice of flesh would most probably...even though its an unbearable thought, be far bearable than the pain of starving to death. Elaine x ps...how many chops can we make out of all those who prefer to die ?? (only joking folks) Elaine x :o)) |

I'm not sure I could but until you're put in such a position, I don't think you know what you're capable of. Debby |

Well firstly every religion , but if your not religious your own morals surely, did you also read that the people that had survived through eating human flesh had huge mental problems after, at the time its a matter of survival its only later that they thought about what they had done. also alot died in that crash because of their refusal to eat human flesh. |

If you survive through eating the flesh of a human being you were not meant to survive, and Yes Lynda, it did make me sick to think that people could resort to such barbaric and unnatural way!Sorry but thats my thoughts on the matter:-)))) |
