Mommylonglegs Report 24 Oct 2005 21:23

OMG. Have been having them terrible for a couple months. Now you all know why Mommylonglegs is 'a bit off it' I am now getting 20-25 a day. OK, they are painless, but B****y hell they are so distressing. Sitting here absolutley drenched in sweat. I dread going to bed, because I am waking up three or four times a night absolutley soaked in sweat. I am asking all those that have gone through this for their valuable advise please. Jenny xx

I read somewhere that soya is very good, I think you can get books on soya cooking for the menopause. Do you mind me asking how old you are Jenny? I always thought you were younger than that! These pc's take years off don't they & they don't show our wrinkles neither!! lol :0) Joan xx

Hi Jenny Don't you fancy HRT? I have heard that a natural remedy called Black Kohosh can be useful. Sorry, no experience though. I get a few mild ones occassionally but nothing worth bothering about. Chrissie xx

Kate Report 24 Oct 2005 21:31

hi, ive been having them for a few years, but not as bad as you. no wonder your stressed. have you consulted your doctor? i was on hrt for a wee while but it didnt agree with me. i take black cohosh for a few weeks and that does help a bit, then i have a break from it, if the flushes get too bad i go back on it.

Debby

Debby Report 24 Oct 2005 21:32

Hi Jenny I can't help you either but I stayed with my cousin a couple of years ago and I couldn't believe how often she had them. Also, my sister in law carries a fan around with her at all times and it's been a couple of years. My mum used to have to stick her head out of the window on and off all day long. And now I'm 44 and it's round the corner for me and I can't say I'm looking forward to it. On the other hand, there's a girl at work who has refused HRT as she reckons it only prolongs it and you'll get them in the end and she suffers very rarely from them. She does eat really healthily though and goes to yoga and gym about 3 times a week. Not sure if that has any medical relevance or not but just wanted you to know about other people who suffer. Debby

Lol Joan. I shall be 51 on Christmas Eve. I can assure you I do have wrinkles. I do drink 'So Good' soya milk. Only the fresh one though . take 50plus multi vitamins and minerals every day. I am hoping that I do not have to go onto HTR in years to come. But these 'flushes' are a lot more frequent, than I expected. PM me if you have some advise please. Jenny x

Jean Report 24 Oct 2005 21:36

hi jenny, Ive been getting hot flushes for the past 4yrs now, I was on several kinds of hrt but still got the symptoms, came off hrt on docs advice, now take evening primrose oil, it helps, flushes and night sweats not so bad now, been taking it for 6months now, have good days and bad days when the sweats seem unbareable, the good days are more than the bad ones. there is a tablet the doc can give you, but you have to be period free for at least a year. hope this helps. jean.

Thank you all, please keep you advise or experiences coming. They are much appreciated. Hubby seems to understand what i am going through, but I am disturbing his sleep during the night. I did take Evening Primrose, but only when I was suffering from PMT so badly. Jenny x

Jennifer Report 24 Oct 2005 21:45

Hi Jenny, I know the feeling I have had the same problem. This summer I kept a log of my hot flushes and found I had between 20 and 25 a day just like you (night and day) I am unable to take HRT as I have had Breast Cancer but went to the doctors and they prescribed CLONIDINE (DIXARIT). These cause widening of the blood vessels and an increase in blood flow and is used to prevent hot flushes. Go and speak to your doctor. They haven't cured me completely but the hot flushes have diminished. You have my sympathy, I know what it is like and it is no joke. Jenny

Hi Jenny I went to the doctors a few weeks ago about mine & he pescribed megestrol. They haven't cured them completly but they are now bearable. Just hoping they don't go on too long as i'm 34 & don't fancy them for the next 20 or so years. Oh what it is to be a woman!! lol Tracey -x-

Germaine Report 24 Oct 2005 21:59

Hi Jenny, know how you feel. Didn't want HRT in fact our new doctor doesn't recommend it. Try Wild Yam for the health shop. Will take a week or two to get into your sytem but I found it a great help certainly noticed the difference if I stopped it so carry on with it once it starts to work. Take Care Germaine x

Jenny can't help I'm afraid but is interesting reading. Have been getting really hot during the night recently . Was talking to my sister yesterday and she said oh yes same age as I was when mine started (38)and the trouble I have with my periods is exactly how she was before she went on the pill. Oh the joys of being female Hope you find something that helps soon. At least you have a very understanding hubby can you imagine if our other halfs were awful(sorry brain dead can't think of a suitable word there) about it. Good luck dawnie

Jenny, its horrible, i have tried everything and nothing has worked, i have a fan on beside my bed all night, i wonder around the house in the night, it drives me nuts. this has been going on for 2 years. tried HRT, it stopped it, but only took it for a month as boobs got so big i needed a super market trolly to carry them around in. If you find a cure let me know please. Shirley Ann.

Jenny, I'm so pleased you have put this thread here, I've wondering how to ask the same! I've only had them for a few weeks, and realise I don't fancy this for the next few years! I'll look out for this Black stuff..... all other advice greatfully received! Suex

Jenny , just looked on internet -there is a society called NAMS for menopause symptoms. I know of British one for pre- menstrual symptoms-NAPS -very good -been to their talks. I`ve got a Mirena coil as had problems with heavy periods and so far not been too bad with flushes but sometimes get crackers with vomiting and dizziness. Got anti-sickness pills from Doctor.
