Hi Karen Just to say well done ;-))) Hope Jeanette is ok can't wait for her to return, not only to find out how she is doing without the nasty ciggies but in general, her computer is giving her trouble :-( Hopefully she will be back soon. Keep up the good work. Pat x By the way I have a brilliant sense of smell too good sometimes smoking at least didn't harm that poor hubby can't smell anything which really irritates him when he is checking wine and food which he loves a little too much :-)))

Hello, Karen. Two years ago when I was in a car crash, the ambulance man asked me if there was anything I wanted. Guess what I said I would like?! ...... So he gave me a cigarette. Thank you, said I, and held it between my fingers. I don't want a light, said I, as he offered his lighter. Then I had to do the breathalyser, and the policeman said I could keep the tube thingy. I then put the cigarette in that, and put them both in my handbag..... the next day I threw both away! :-) Joy

Now that sounds interesting Ken!!!!! The helpline number you gave me... the guy on there told me that i used ciggies as rewards, that sounds like what you wanted!!!!! Then he said reward youself with another coffin nail!!! Shocking thought isnt it!! Keep it up Ken!!! These little incidents are sent to try our will!! Good Luck all you other quitters!! Karen

Another testing day - not stressful like others, but was so happy felt like a smoke to celebrate, just about managed to avoid asking for one but had the evening gone on much longer I may have succumbed Ken xx

Hi Karen, Great to see your still off the dreaded weed lol. Well done to you too Ginny, keep it up!! Thanks also for the answer to the query about bleeding gums. All I can say is that my darned gums must have been absolutely horrific if I'm still suffering now lol I still have cravings but it is a habit thing. Worst time is when I go to a pub. The best part is the longer you are off the fags the easier it is to say no to that little gremlin on your shoulder who keeps saying ' Go on, just have one, no-one will know. ' Also the cravings never last long Wilf xx

Thanks Ginny and well done!!! You are doing BRILLIANT!!!!! Have you had many withdrawal symptons??? Thanks for the info on the bleeding gums cos since Wilf mentioned it i have had the taste of blood now and again throughout the day!!! Whats the munchies of you choice???? LOL Karen

Ginny

Ginny Report 12 Nov 2005 12:16

Smoke free now for 2 weeks!!!! The reason that your gums bleed when you give up is that smoking inhibits the blood supply to your gums - hence the fact that smokers are far more likely to lose their teeth due to gum disease. The bleeding gums are actually a GOOD sign because it means that the blood supply is returning and that some of the damage incurred through smoking is 'repairing' itself! Well done to everyone else who is giving up.

Good for you Karen. For your own sake keep on at it you are doing brilliant and yes the cravings do go, I am off them longer (late March)and I don't get what you could call cravings, sometimes think of them but it's fleeting goes as soon as it comes. Karen and Jeanette I do wish you and everyone else who go through this all the very best I know what it's like and I also know it's worth it. Pat x Joy sometimes it's best not to be reminded unless you want to remind yourself, I certainly would know that feeling.
