Evening everyone, We're just reading the new messages, having just got in from work. He's perched on my shoulder! He's still eating well and quite lively - so fingers crossed this is going to buy us some precious pain-free time. Liz - I think I know how you feel. Even though it's not 'time' yet, I don't think I can take him when the time comes, but feel I'd be letting him down if I wasn't there, and would probably regret it later if I didn't. Sweet dreams to you all and your 'faithful friends' Debbie (and Spindle)

To everyone who sent such kind thoughts and words, Sadly, Spindle lost his brave fight this afternoon. He stopped eating again late yesterday, so rang the vet this morning and took him this afternoon, for another of his injections. She examined him first, and I just knew what she was going to say. It was time to let him go. She couldn't believe how quickly the cancer had taken over his poor body! It's less than two weeks since we first took him. We stayed with him, till it was over. I couldn't let him 'go' with strangers. So, I hope he is at Rainbow Bridge, waiting for us, Heather. Debbie

It sounds to me as though your cat has had a lovely life with a loving owner,so don't let the animal down now by not doing what the cat would wish for you if the situation were reversed. The most loving thing to do ,is spare the cat any pain and suffering, only be with the animal and stroke it in the last few minutes the cat will love you for it. I still miss my dog and cat years on,but i remember them with love and fondness, and you will do the same.Fred.PtfA&G&G&S.

Debbie - so sad to read your news of Spindle, have had to do this for all of my animals when they stopped enjoying life, but it never gets any easier. You know in your heart you have done right by your cat, but I know you will miss him so much. Just be glad he is no longer suffering and be sure you will meet up again some time over Rainbow Bridge. Thinking of you. Liz

Hi Fred & Liz, Thanks for your kind words, though there's no consolling me at the moment. Crying like a baby! Fred, Though I say it myself, he did have a good life - he was dearly loved and spoilt rotten! and Liz, Yes, as someone said, last week, you *know* when it's time. I know it was the right thing for him, I could see 'something' in his eyes, today. Does that sound mad? Debbie

Sorry Love, theres nothing anyone can say or do to help you, its a case of grieving and coming through the other side, which you will although you dont feel like that at the moment. My thoughts are with you, but believe it was the kindest thing to do. She is at peace now, you gave her that peace.

I work for Cats Protection, and we have to make that kind of decision very often. Its a very aggressive thing your cat has got. What you have to remember is the stress your cat is going thorugh with trips to the Vets, injections, and general illness. Ask yourself what is kinder to do.

So sorry, but he is out of pain now, which is good for him but very sad for you. I know the feeling well. No doubt you will be daft like me and get another, knowing we will go through it all again. Marion

I too had to make a painful decision this week. Thomas Cat has been diabetic for a couple of years and had been fine until a couple of weeks ago. He spent almost a week at the vets and they sorted him out so I brought him home. Last weekend he went missing for a few hours and I knew he was trying to tell me something. I stayed up with him for 2 nights to keep an eye on him, but on Monday morning decided the kindest thing I could do was ring the vets... They were wonderful. He will be at the Pet Cemetary in Lancashire and they will send me a card. What really upset me was Kate (border collie) for the two nights I stayed up lay by the side of Thomas' basket and wouldn't move and she kept 'talking' to him during the night. She must have known also. I am crying with you. Many hugs and much luv. Jxx

So sorry to read about Spindle - try to be glad that he lived rather than sad that he's gone. I know this is easier said than done though.... Thinking of you xx

Hi everyone, Thank you for kind messages. It's all still a bit 'raw' today, can't still get to grips with the fact that he's not here somwhere! Hopefully he's running around now, returned to his former glory. You know deep down you've down the right thing, but it still hurts like hell, doesn't it? Julie - I'm so sorry, my heart goes out to you ((hugs :)) Paul - much as I love cats (all animals) I couldn't do your job! It would break my heart every day! Deepest respect to you, for doing what most of us would love to do for them. Marion - oh yes, we'll undoubtedly go down that road again - soon! Can't imagine life totally cat free. Got be brave now and face the world - time to go to work! Debbie
