On a blind date my mate had set up back in 1980. Couldn't stand him at first but must have changed my mind as we've been married 23 years! Christine |

17th July 1976 at a party in Eastcote near Ruislip in Middlesex. Right at the end of the party, I went indoors - I'd been in the garden all evening - Mel was making coffee. I thought he was gorgeous, but it turned out he was taking another girl home, though he did kiss all the girls goodnight first, including me! ...4th March 1977 another party at the same address. I had been there all evening as I was staying the night and was completely sloshed. Mel turned up on the spur of the moment. The girl who was giving the party thought he would do for our friend L who was in love with someone completely unsuitable at the time. L wasn't interested, but thought Mel looked more like my type - she beckoned me over to introduce us. I said we'd already met and then uttered the immortal line 'I'm very drunk. Do you mind if I lean on your shoulder?' 4th Feb 1978 we moved into our first flat together 15 October 1986 we moved into our first house together 17 August 1990 we got married. nell |

We met when he came to work in the department where I was the big boss's secretary. I was married to someone else, he'd just got engaged - both of those 'arrangements' fell apart, and we got together afterwards at a squash club Christmas party. He moved in with me a year later (30 years ago this Christmas), and we married nearly a year after that. >*|*< |

I had broken up with a boyfriend Id had for 2 years on and off and feeling pretty miserable. Went to high street for a bit of retail therapy, bought shoes too tight but wanted to wear them then and there. 20 minutes later, hobbling down high street a car stopped to let me cross the road and the young man driving it gave me a lovely smile as I limped across. 5 minutes later hobbling along still the same car pulled up next to me and the young man was very concerned that I was having difficulty walking and offered me a lift. (Yes, I know, I know, but it was different back then). So I had the lift and he told me he was off to France the next day but could he take me out that night. He turned up in a suit, looking gorgeous and we had a lovely evening. He went off to France and I never thought Id see him again. I went off to Cornwall for two weeks hols and after a week or so I rang mum who said this chap had phoned me from France! So that was it - met up when I got home, got married a year and a bit later. |

First time, he was dating my friend who lived in the flat opposite, she dumped him and I gave him tea and sympathy. 2o years later I recognised this chap at another friend's wedding - he was her new husband's stepbrother. Didn't know where I knew him from, but he remembered me and the rest is history. Definitely wasn't love at first sight tho, either time. Not sure it is even now - more better the devil you know... |
