Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 24 Nov 2005 00:50

Who are they? Where did they come from? How have we allowed them to get such a foothold in our society? How do we get RID OF THEM?

Nanna Gaynor (June nr Preston's Daughter) Report 24 Nov 2005 07:28

It started a long time before Mr Blair..... some time in the 1960's I think. I think the general idea is good but like most things it seems to have gone wayyyyy too far. You know what they say ......... 'the road to hell is paved with good intentions'......

lol Helen Gaynor's right - a lot of peoples' lives would much harder now if it wasn't for the movement that is now called political correctness. Like most things it's taken to the extremes but these are the exceptions.

Hi Gwynne!! *ducks as bullet whistles past her left ear*. I thought socialism had been dead since Tory Blair came on to the scene. Clarify please. Over and out.

Reform is a good thing, PCness isn't. The two are not the same.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 24 Nov 2005 10:10

Hi Roxanne, I'm not at the extremes of PC but I do believe there is a lot of good unsung PCness about. Far more than bad stuff. Gwynne (trembling)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Nov 2005 10:13

I think there is a difference between tolerance and PC . We should be tolerant about other cultures, religions, sexual persuasions etc. But PC takes it too far which is what causes trouble. PC means we actually forfeit our own beliefs for those of others. Ann glos

Roxanne Report 24 Nov 2005 10:27

Hi Gwynne, dont tremble!!lol i cant shoot straight anyway!!lol and Im really a pacifist by nature, love debate but hate violence, so your safe with me!!lol and I respect your opinions 100%:-))) x

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 24 Nov 2005 10:32

Thanks, Roxanne, I agree that some goes way too far. But I don't have a problem with people being treated equally and all beliefs being respected. I'm not in favour at all of any religion being forfeited. Gwynne

Bring back Enoch (Rivers of Blood) Powell - AND THIS TIME LISTEN TO WHAT HE HAS TO SAY !

Harry

Harry Report 24 Nov 2005 11:04

I think PC (or morality or whatever) should just evolve. I don,t like people being paid to diligently search for anything which will justify their jobs. As an example. how many muslims are offended by CHRISTmas?. Have their been any complaints or is the offence purely imaginary in some officers mind as to what could conceivably happen. Happy days.

John

John Report 24 Nov 2005 11:21

FAO Harry Hayes, Harry you are dead right! The officer you mention is only one of a vast army of anonymous 'SUITS' who make all the decisions affecting all of us and see their place in life as a proposer of unneccessary changes merely to justify their own overpaid position. I speak from experience having been a permanent civil servant for ten years.

John Jackman I think you'd need Jesus to bring back Enoch Powell given that he's dead.
