White bits in the finger nails is definitely the sign of a shortage of zinc, not calcium (speaking as a nursing sister). I copied in the info below from a website I found. Just take the recommended dosage of zinc tablets every day, and it should be ok. Hope this helps. (Having all the calcium rich foods won't do any harm either :-) ) 'Zinc is possibly one of the most versatile minerals found in the body. Because it is found in small concentrations it is usually regarded as a trace mineral but this should not be a reason to disregard the importance of this mineral. Zinc is involved in over 100 different enzyme systems in the body. It is a potent antioxidant with free radical scavenging action. It also assists the healing of burns, wounds and other skin disorders such as acne. Zinc is involved in the formation of bones, and is also needed for specific physical requirements of the male body. Symptoms which may signal an increased need for this mineral include the appearance of white flecks on the fingernails.' |

Brusing of the nail bed definatly causes milky spots in the nail you just have to wait for the spots to grow out - or paint your nails - as there is no cure. |

Daniel, my Mum made us eat Jelly if we had 'white bits' . You don't make it you eat it straight from the box. We had to have a cube a night. Can't recall if it made a difference or not! Beryl |
