Haven't thought about my epitaph yet, but my mum wants 'she did what she could'. Old story told by Alan Bennett, so imagine it in a Yorkshire accent. Wife dies, distraught husband spends ages thinking about epitaph for his devout spouse. Tells monumental mason he wants 'She was Thine'. Mason says this is very appropriate and come back in a week when its done. Widower returns to read the stone - 'Oooh! Tha's left off e!W he says on reading 'She was Thin' Mason apologises, says there is room to add the letter and to come back tomorow. On return, widower is confronted with 'E, she was Thin'! I bet many of us ladies would welcome that as a final comment! nell

In a graveyard down the road from me,one of the headstones reads, YOUNG MOULDERS HERE. I must say I found it very funny, especially as it was about 150 years old.

Deb ( Steel City) Report 10 Jan 2006 00:05

a husband put in his will that he was to be buried with all his money. Told wife what he had done and said she was to get nothing upon his passing. Made her promise to abide by his request. Day of his funeral, her friends asked her if she had done as he wanted to which she replied 'Why yes I did, he will be buried with all his riches'. Then she told them she wrote him a cheque for the full amount and it was in his coffin with him.
