On Jersey they let me see the Birth register for free. It was fascinating to see the name of my g.g. grandparents written there. I found them very helpful. :0) Joan

I got mine from the registers office Martha Street in Glasgow they cost me £13.50 each but it was worth the money and now they are on line on scotlandspeople could have just paid £6 for 30 credits and got them there and then, I do wish England was the same as them would make our family tree search a lot easier

Val, Did you go to all the way to the family records centre (FRC) in London for it? I always understode it to be if you ordered at GRO or FRC you wouls have to wait for the certificate to be sent from Southport to them just as if you order online. I know some Local Records centres can do certificates the day you order them but they have less to do.

It can happen getting certificates the same day as I got my grandpsrents marriage and gr grandparents marriage on the same day put on an original certificate

When she went to Guernsey to trace her ancestors everything seemed quite easy for her , they even took the death register to the actual address where they had lived Wonder if I would get the same treatment for my Guernsey Ancestors ? Doubt it because mine were poor and some of them were born in the workhouse It would also cost me £10 per hour for the searches at the Priaulx Library Bren

If you think thats good try watching Family Ties on BBC4! The woman Angela goes to the family records centre for her mums death certificate and appears to leave with it in a sealed envelope the same day.

Vivienne, yeah, she rolls up at the Familyrecords centre and next thing we see she's studying a marriage certificate lol.

I just checked the 1891 census and the word 'months' is scrawled more in the occupation column so that's probably why we couldn't see it too well. Lunar, they moved about from parish to parish from what I've seen so far on the IGI.

Yes, I was another shouting Batch Numbers Excellent programme but like others I feel it would be more helpful to beginners if they didn't make it look so easy. Vivienne

Andy I actually did as well as think you have the nwmes of the possable parent so use them to find other children. I even tried the batch numbers myself and only got 2 children, if you put in the parents names you get 7. How lame am I? I'm doing other peoples research.

I found Sheila Hancock's family story very interesting. First of all because I often used to drive past the sewage pumping station where her grandfather worked, and secondly because she had ancestors who worked in the iron moulding side of shipbuilding (as did my Grandfather), and others who were shipping agents and brokers in the Port of London (as my father's family were in Sunderland). She's a lovely lady and was very watchable tonight. She obviously enjoyed the experience very much. How nice to see the Census pages printed on A3 paper too! LOL CB >|<

Andy, I thought it said 10yrs old,then when she found the death cert for Violet I couldn't believe it. And yes I was shouting Hugh Wallis batch numbers. Sue

Very interesting, I thought they covered quite a lot of aspects of Sheila Hancock's ancestry. However, when they were looking at the 1891 census and she discovered a daughter called Violet Woodward who didn't appear on the 1901 census, I was convinced it said her age was 10. So, I was surprised when she got a death cert saying Violet had died at 17 months. Maybe she was 10 months old on the 1891 census rather than 10 years. Will have to have a look now! Anyone else shouting 'batch nos' when they were pondering over the IGI? lol
