I had put mine down to the fact that I take steriods, but the consultant at the hospital confirmed they are flushes and advised Evening Primrose, been taking it for about two months, but told it takes about three months to start to work. I sometimes feel like I am going to explode and when I am walking round in a t-shirt and everyone else is wrapped up against the cold, I get some funny looks. M. |

Christine-please don't say that!! I've been having hot flushes for about three years since I came off HRT and I keep hoping they will stop. Six hot flushes in one night last week and hardly any sleep! (not that having a dog asleep across my feet helps!!) I wear short sleeved cotton blouses at work but sometimes want to rip my necklace off as my neck feels so bad. Sorry Roxanne!! have tried oil of eve primrose but it didn't work but I will try wild yam-thanks Germaine. PLease keep adding your tips, have been wondering what on earth to do. Love Chris |

I have to say that, at 65, I still get the occasional 'power surge' (yes we called them that too) at night, and I remember my Mum in her 70s saying she still got the occasional one. I did take HRT and didn't have any trouble with bad hot flushes or night sweats. Only gave it up after nine years when i had a benign cyst picked up at a mamogram and the doc at the clinic suggested it was time I came off it. Ann Glos |

Hi Roxanne I had my first night sweat about 2 years ago when I was 38. I blamed it on putting my winter quilt on before it was cold enough! lol. Since then they have become more frequent and much, much wetter! I recently came off the pill to see what would happen, and now I'm getting tropical moments during the day too. I'm now just waiting to turn into a man! LOL On a serious note though, I agree with Gloria. It would have been nice to have had some sort of education about this. Jeanette x |

Okay just read all these messages and am a bit puzzled. Thought this was something that lasted a couple of years, periods stopping etc. But I am aged nearly 47 and beleive I am just starting but somebody else is 65 and still having the flushes. Does it last forever then?? Thought once your periods eased of and you dont have one for a couple of years you were back to normal. Whatever normal is!!! GLoria |

Annie That doesn't sound very good at all. I would go back and pester him until he has at least done some tests. But I'm getting grumpy like that in my old age! lol |

Hi everyone, Try Red Clover for the flushes. You can buy it at health food shops like Holland and Barrett. It's really good! Kim x |

Black cohosh is also recommended for hot flush problems etc. I was on HRT but came off it. Have hot spells but not perspiring over much just sometimes clammy, mostly just feel a dry burning sensation all over my bod. My friend of 88 told me she still has flushes sometimes - sorry everyone. We are all different and so I think we just have to cope with what is thrown at us, trial and error in complementary medicines. |

88! 88!!! One thing I really hate is that horrible feeling when you get a vague tingle and you just know a hot flush is comming . There you are just getting on with life and suddenly you think oo er I can feel a hot flush coming, Wham! Does anyone else get that? Also any bit of stess and Wham! another one. Red clover you say? off to the chemist! Chris |
