Can't believe the teacher gave an incorrect clue (wrong amount of letters) and expected a 5 year old to know a work like validate, or sate for that matter. |

Bev, Happy to help although when I got up this morning I was sure it was wrong, as I remembered that you asked for a 7 letter word. Validates has nine letters??? Was the teacher just trying to confuse the children? Lin xx |

Bev, I wasn't up until turned four this morning looking for it, although it did bug me for a while, like everyone else. I was up because I have been doing some clay modelling........making some clay ornaments for my garden this spring, if it ever arrives lol. Good luck to your son regardless.........that teacher needs detention, at the very least!!!!!!! Lin xx |

Just a thought Bev........and I'm not sure, but could the word you're looking for be VALIDATES? If Sate means to satisfy fully, and something which is valid is proved, then satisfactory proof would be valid....no?........yes? It was just a thought. Lin xx |

SATE- v. Archaic.A past tense of sit. So is SIT the answer everyone is looking for. Looked in the OED its all I could think of because the for other definition, To 'satisfy to excess' I couldn't find a word for. |

Bev I hope you took the teacher to task over this one. From my experience, setting a child a task that is well beyond their capabilities just serves to confuse them and ultimately put them off learning further. (I remember my Mother buying me Mastermind when it first came out. She thought it would help to develop my powers of reasoning, however all it achieved was to put me off the game for life as I was too young to cope with that level of rationalisation) |

I don't know the answer - but get your niece to explain that there are exactly 1037836800 different ways to re-arrange these letters...can't believe they would ask a 5 year old to do anything of the sort!! And that's coming from a teacher! Kind regards, William |

In my opinion this is far too hard for a five year old. Personally, I would do the rest but leave that one blank. I would also be speaking to the teacher about the difficulty of the homework. and the distress of the child when even adults cannot do it to help her. Elaine x |

Think most schools are on half term break at present and go back on Monday - we will probably have to be patient till at least mid week :) Selena |

Could the teacher have meant...SAR...TAY as in the indian type food made with peanuts?? That would make more sense as most kids would know about that type of food. WT in Oz |
